The watch component is great. It shows both analog and digital on separate screens. It also speaks the time to help children learn to tell time.
It is also an activity tracker. The child wears it and it tracks their movement. The more they move the more avatars they unlock. The child can then play with the avatar much like a little pet on their wrist.
In addition, it encourages movement by randomly tell the child to move around or having them do challenges like hopping like a kangaroo.
As a parent, you can set quiet time for school and bedtime. You can also put the watch into quiet mode manually which stops it from talking or allowing the child to play with it but it still shows the time.
The charge lasts at least a day. I plug it in at night.
This would be good except the watch has plenty of games on it that do not ask your kid to move. My kid probably did the jump and run and crawl and wiggle command games for the like the first week of playing with the toy, but ever since then, he has moved on to the other games that are on the watch. They are games much like the ones you would find on a smartphone and he just plays those instead of the active movement games.
There are two that he seems to play the most. One reminds me very much of the game Tetris, and the other one is like a game where you feed your pet. Oh, and I think there is one where you wash the pet too. Anyway, you can do all these things with your pet to earn "gems" but you can do all of these things with your pet without moving from the couch... or floor, carseat, you get the gist.
Which brings me to my next point... this is nice to have in the car. It entertains him and at least he isn't asking for my phone, but I just don't think this watch should have been advertised so much as a device to keep your kid active and moving. That's only one of the games that is on the watch.
The final reason for my three stars is that the watch has external parental controls. Meaning that you decide what the watch can and cannot do by plugging it into your computer via USB cord, downloading some software or something, logging in, and then making the changes. One time my child accidentally reset the time on his watch and it made it seem like it was like 1am or something when it was really around 12noon, well due to the parental controls that I had set, he was now locked out of his watch and couldn't use it because the watch thought it was the middle of the night, when in reality it wasn't. So I had to plug it into the computer, download the software, etc. etc. in order to change the time controls, unlock the watch, and reset the time. It was a time consuming and annoying process. If I could make one change about this watch, it would be to make it so that parents could control it from the actual watch, and not by logging in via a computer.
Oh, and it's battery life is horrible. Always having to recharge this thing.
Oh, one last thing. I'm always looking for what ages people are buying toys for. It helps me know whether or not to buy it for my kid. So I will let you know that my son was 3 when I bought this. He is about to be 5 now, and still plays with it. I think 3 to 6 is probably the perfect age range for this toy.
