I just bought this product last week for the fact that they have for example Disney cartoon related books which I can buy seperstedly. I got the pen which works fine but I can’t find other books to purchase even on leapfrog’s website. Then I was notified that this product will be DISCONTINUED and a new product will replace this one ! If I had known that I would have waited for the new product!

My five year old daughter loves reading because of this device! I'm already motivated to buy her more books and more LeapFrog products. As a parent all you need to do is install the software via the USB cable and LeapFrog's Connect software. Once the books are stored in memory on the Reader (pen) then your child is ready to go. My daughter would listen to the pen say the word as she tapped each word with the pen and then repeat it out loud, then move to the next word. This is a fantastic reading tool for helping your child sound-out words and read from left to right line-by-line. Out of all her Christmas gifts, the experience of watching my daughter pick up and finish three books the first time we fired this toy/teaching tool up was by far the best. She went to bed asking me if she could read another book first thing in the morning I was pleasantly shocked! Buy this for your kid and help them learn to read properly, once they see how fun it is they will be motivated to do it on their own. Also the illustrations in all the books are accompanied by audio which is amazing! For example, she read a book about Leap and his friends riding bikes. The tire on one of the bikes had popped (observable by the illustration) and when you tapped the pen on the image where the nail was it made a sound emulating air releasing from a tire. The characters also had their own voice lines related to the tire leaking air. I think that LeapFrog outdid themselves here and the added content for every image is great for object recognition and awareness. My daughter got more out of these books than I expected, not to mention she was very happy.

My daughter is 6 and enjoys this reader set with interactive pen immensely. You don't have to buy anything extra on the leap site if you choose not to. You do need to go to the website to synch the book content. It came already with a full charge so I just attached it to my computer and the prompts instruct you on how to get started. I did this BEFORE I gave it to her so that she wouldn't have to wait to use it.

THE BEST THING EVER!!!! I bought this for my daughter during the Summer between Pre-K & K. She was already good at identifying 2-3 letter words, but once she started using this she was identifying multiple syllable words. She figured out the buttons in 5 mins. It can read the sentence for them, read a word for them or sound the word out. After a week, she was barely even using the pen anymore. She received compliments on her 3rd day of kindergarten. So far, she's the only kid in hey class who can read. This was a great investment.

I bought this for my 6 year old daughter who is in kindergarten and she loves it! She likes the games that are within the books and I love that there are multiple options. She can have the whole book read to her or only the words she can’t read. My only complaint is that I feel like the battery doesn’t last very long before needing another charge. Other than that, I’m very happy with this purchase.
