This review is from: Learn Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 Video Training Tutorials - 14 Hours (DVD-ROM)

If you are not familiar with how to use Photoshop Elements 12 photo editing software, this tutorial is a very easy way to learn how to use the important concepts of the software. This course contains 14 hours of video lessons that can be played on your computer or even a DVD player.

Overview:

The Elements workspace, where you load and organize your images, has a number of tools and a window where your photos appear. The lesson helps you navigate this space and understand what all the icons mean (magic wand, cropping, dodge, burn, sharpen, etc.)

Elements relies heavily now on the "Organizer." If you learn how to use the Organizer efficiently, you will speed up your photo editing tasks. Even if you were familiar with older versions of PSE (say, version 8 or earlier), the Organizer has changed so much and become such an integral part of the software, that this part of the tutorial is almost worth it alone.

I used the tutorial to create a slideshow with music, and export it to a video. I used vacation photos, and with the ability to organize each shot and sync up some music, it looked almost like a video, even though I just used stills from the camera.

If you want to create panorama shots (which are VERY popular around here) that is also covered. Photoshop Elements has a way to create a panorama from a series of shots, so you don't need a panoramic camera. You can stitch photos together to create a wide scene.

The problem-tools section is valuable for learning how to correct and retouch photos, especially those vintage photos you've scanned in from family albums.

Presentation is very well done and instructions are logically organized. However, should you have any questions for Technical or Customer Support, do not expect to be overwhelmed with responses; they simply do not reply.

Very disappointed with this. The instructor spent at least half the modules talking about the organizer, going into great detail, over and over, about points that are self evident while ignoring everything I really wanted to know. He kept saying "we will cover this in a later module", but I dragged myself to the very end without learning the editing skills I set out to hone. This is really petty, but it is amazing how ugly his images are. It was dreary--in fact the whole course was dreary. Dreary and disappointing. I went online to find answers--and the very same modules were being shown, for free--on utube. Grrrr!

It helps with decent explanations and being able to repeat lessons over and over when needed. I previously bought photoshop 10 ( before I had 12) and realized how easy it was to learn from.

Have had this tutorial for some time now, and have enjoyed spending time with it. Provides easy to understand lessons for software that contains a huge range of capabilities that effectively serve photo enthusiasts from novice to professionals. So much information is presented that most beginners will want to view the lessons over and over. Software does not seem to be compatible to some browsers, so it you have a problem getting it to run try using some other browser.

Great for the beginner. After having gone thru the course one time, I'm going over certain sections again and while I learned a lot before, I'm learning even more now. Bite size lessons. It's often OK to do lessons out of sequence.

This is easy to understand, and in a sense easy to use. However, like everything, it requires a bit of study to become truly proficient with the product it describes. There's a lot to be learned from this course, and the most important thing I learned is there is no substitute for a good original photo. The saying goes, "You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear." There are some things Photoshop can fix, but not all. This course helps Photoshop users identify what can be fixed.

This seems to be a very basic course for beginners, and that is great. However, it is incomplete, as there is no instruction on camera raw! There are some of us advanced amateurs that use camera raw. We and the pros need all the help and pointers we can get.
