Top customer reviews
The video includes note by note instruction of five songs (Walk Don't Run, Perfidia,
Wipe Out, Wild and Woolly and Hawaii Five-O). The versions he teaches are the original recorded versions, some of which differ significantly from the live versions that the Ventures have done over the years. For Wipe-Out, the DVD includes not only the familiar first section but the second solo section that virtually every other teaching resource I've ever seen simply leaves out.
Aside from the lessons and a bit of history about the group and each song, there is a performance of each song and a discussion of the guitars and amp settings used.
There is no printed music or tablature, but none is needed given the way he takes you carefully through each one. It would have been nice if the DVD had included backing tracks for each song for you to play along with, but you can't have everything.
All in all, this is one of the best instructional DVDs I have ever seen, and Lee Hodgson is a great teacher. This DVD is a must have for anyone who wants to play the music of the Ventures.
