About the Author

Shanna Hatfield is a hopeless romantic with a bit of sarcasm thrown in for good measure. In addition to blogging, eating too much chocolate and being smitten with her husband (Captain Cavedweller), Shanna Hatfield writes clean romantic fiction with a healthy dose of humor. She also dabbles in cooking, baking, and home entertaining.

I enjoyed reading "Learnin' The Ropes". I liked the back and forth - the push and pull between the two main romantic characters. I loved the family closeness and how everyone seemed to give advice. Although I liked the book I felt like something was missing - I don't know if I really cared about the money hunt - and I don't know if I can write exactly what else was missing except to say I felt like it could have been even better. All in all it was a good book - quick read for me and I did like the two main characters and all the supporting characters - I have to say the dog was one of my favorites. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a nice romance, easy read, and close family ties. 4 stars - I LIKE IT!

An interesting male character for once, who is nice and believable (except for being able to gallop on his first ride...)
You like the characters and although you know how it is going to work out in the end you still enjoy it.
Curly up with it on a rainy day and just enjoy!

I loved this romance with a hint of mystery. Although the end was predictable from the beginning, that is what we want in our fairy tale romances, isn't it? Characters were believable and had good depth. Lots of fun and a lovely light-hearted read which tackles some difficult contemporary issues (eg unemployment). A very tastefully written romance. I will be buying more from this author.

If you enjoy contemporary Western romance, then you'll love Learnin' The Ropes by Shanna Hatfield. I liked the fact that the hero is an out-of-work mechanic--a nice change from the wealthy super-suave hero type seen in so many romances. It was great fun to experience the hero's transition from city guy to cowboy, especially in the Oregon setting. By the way, the book also includes a gigantic dog (named Baby) as an important character and for comic relief.
I recommend Learnin' The Ropes as a fun light-hearted escape (rated G).

I liked the story line. It was ok. I have read several other books by Shanna Hatfield that I liked a little better. Most of her works have a touch of reality, mixed with fairy tale. They do not contain heavy sex scenes which I appreciate. I like the "happily ever after".

Oh, Tyler and Lexie Jo!

Tyler Lewis is down on his luck. Having lost his mechanic’s job in a tough economy, he has been relegated to living out of his truck and accepting the occasional meal from his sister when he isn’t able to secure a new position after many months. Down to almost nothing left in his savings, Ty applies for the mechanics job at the Rockin’ R Ranch out in the middle of nowhere, Oregon. When he accepts the job and heads to the ranch, his world is rocked when he first realizes that Lex Jr. is not a man, but a beautiful woman.

Lexie Jo Ryan, know to everyone as Lex Jr. is in desperate need of a mechanic that will stick it out far from the action of any nearby town. With the last two mechanics lasting less than a week or so combined, she believes that Tyler will be another that won’t stick. She is speechless when she first encounter the gorgeous mechanic, who is nothing like the gangly grease monkey she was expecting.

To both of their surprise, however, Ty takes to the desolate beauty of the ranch, his job as the mechanic, and to the additional job duties as part-time cowboy. What they don’t count for is their growing attraction to each other. Add the fact that her giant dog, Baby, clings to Tyler as his new best friend, Lexie quickly realizes that her heart is in trouble. But, Lexie doesn’t trust her feelings and Tyler doesn’t think that he has anything to offer her as a homeless mechanic with nothing to his name. I loved the main characters as well as the cast of supporting characters (especially Swede) and enjoyed watching these Ty and Lexie figure out that sometimes you need to take a chance to find the happiness you deserve.

Even with some steamy kisses, this is a clean read.

Learnin' The Ropes I loved Learnin' The Ropes by Shanna Hatfield. It's a sweet easy read for someone who wants a little different twist for a happy ever after book. The book description is great. Shanna Hatfield is now one of my favorite authors. After reading her 1890's Eastern Oregon setting in The Christmas Bargain I had to read this contemporary Oregon setting book. I was not disappointed and loved every page. I am now reading her Grass Valley Cowboy series and loving them as well. If you want a fun to read happily ever after romance you will enjoy reading Learnin' The Ropes.
