LEARNING CHINESE THE EASY WAY, LEVEL 1 Book 2 further coaches the reader in learning how the individual characters are formed. It is here that Sam Song really is creative: he takes a word or idea, translates that into stick figures an then gradually reduces the lines of the figures into the character he is teaching. He the immediately uses that character in a story, showing the student how the character 'looks' in context with a story line. In this book the story he relates is 'The Wind and the Sun' a story with a universal theme to which everyone can relate.
As Song says 'Each Chinese character, after going through several thousand years of evolution, is like an abstract piece of art. To appreciate and remember a Chinese Character, it's essential to understand the artist's reasoning behind it.' He fully understands that the most sure way to remember a newly approached lesson is to relate it to a story, and that is precisely how Sam Song takes us by the hand and patiently and slowly introduces us to reading Chinese with simplified characters (Mandarin Chinese and English Edition). It is entertaining, informative, and a lot of fun! Grady Harp, February 12
