My kids surprised me by asking for these. They have them at daycare, and they wanted some for home, too. I have to say, they were worth every penny - so far they've been turned into rabbits, cats, all kinds of pokemon, birds, buildings, plates, carrots, jelly beans, towers, wands - and that's just the first two weeks!

As for size, they're basically square, slightly larger than your standard 2x2 Lego brick. The colors you get seem to be truly random, we have more of some colors than others.

I'd suggest getting more than one set. Two or three are better - they can do more with them.

I bought these to use as a manipulative tool in teaching place value, addition, subtraction, and other early math concepts. I'm quite pleased with them. The blocks are a good size for little hands and snap together from any direction. My younger children just like building with them, but I think they'll also be useful in our homeschool math. The included instruction pamphlet also suggests using the cubes in teaching concepts such as perimeter and in solving word problems. You can also use them to help solve simple algebraic expressions. I think we'll get a lot of use out of this set.

The MathLink Cubes are easy to snap apart and they are nice size for children to manipulate. Not too big, not too small. I bought them to use when teaching Singapore Math 2B. I also find them helpful with my 4 and 5 year olds. They like to play with them so much that my only concern is cubes getting lost as the primary reason I bought them was as a learning tool. There were some negative reviews on similar products that I'm glad I read ahead of time.

My kids love this product! We use it for math and just for fun :) They easily snap together, and are of pleasant feel and comfortable in their tiny hands. See attached pictures. The Batman home furniture is done by my 5 year old. He is also the one figuring out addends to make an eight.

We love these MathLink Cubes. I chose them over Unifix cubes as they can attach on the sides as well which my son enjoys. With these cubes he can subtract, add, multiply and divide and numbers as long as the answer is less than 100. They are his abacus as he loves them, and we got them when he is five. His school has cubes like these and we appreciate being able to work with them at home as well.

I do with the bag that these came in was more substantial, but this is not a very big deal.

I've been teaching my son math and this is a great visual tool that my son can manipulate. The colors are really solid, and the plastic has a little rubber feel. The pieces snap just about any direction, and you can make 3D shapes. My only wish is that I had more, I may need to buy another set. After we're done working our projects, my son likes to snap them back together and line up the little interior shapes, there are diamonds, squares, hexagons, and triangles in the holes. It's a fun little challenge of lining them up so that every side is the same -- it's kind of addictive, even for me! Definitely recommend these!

The cubes are easy to link and easy to break apart. Some of the sets I've ordered (not from this site) have been very difficult to break apart.
