I am very happy with this magnifying glass, especially because of how much daughter likes it. It is very thick, and easy to see through. It’s definitely durable, she’s been carrying it around since she got it, and it’s taken a few good falls. It was a good price, and I would definitely purchase it again. Learning Resources has a great selection of fun stuff that we’ve been trying out lately.

Build quality is okay but quality control seems to be absent. Our's has a piece of red plastic from the frame protruding into the lens as shown in the attached photo. I agree with the other reviewers that the tongues are useless as they require you to apply significant force to operate them while at the same time that force needs to be applied very carefully when handling fragile objects like bugs. Basically it's not possible, not for a small child anyway.
Another thing to consider (and which applies to all magnifying glasses) is that operating a magnifying glass requires quite a bit of skill as the object will only be clearly visible if the distances between object and lens and lens and eye are correct. As adults we don't think about this any more but you will have to take some time to teach your 3-4 year old how to obtain proper focus. And that requires that she's actually interested in seeing those details. I'm just mentioning this because we tend to think that a magnifier is such a simple tool that "even a baby" can operate it. That's not the case, so don't be disappointed if your child or grand child looses interest in this great toy very soon.
Finally: check the measurements of this magnifier. It's huge. Much bigger that you'd imagine.
