It is super easy to set the clock and timers. No, it's not as easy as a manual egg timer, but it is as easy as any digital timer I've used.
You CAN stop the timer once you've started it.
You CAN pause the timer.
You CAN set a sound at the beginning, at the switch from green to yellow, and at the end. It makes a non optional beep when it switches from yellow to red. That is the only thing I would change about it.
My daughter loves it and its helping her to learn time awareness.
The timer is pretty easy to set and even easier to turn on. To initially set up the manual timer (where you can choose how many minutes the green light stays on, how many minutes for yellow, and how many for red) or the automatic timer (where you choose the total time length, like 1 hour, and it's automatically divided up into 80% green 15% yellow 5% red or something like that), it takes more button-pushing. But once you have that set, you just have to push menu, arrow over to your selected timer, push enter, and push start. So turning on the timer takes about 4 seconds. And you can turn it off mid-timer by holding down the menu button- handy, but make sure your kid doesn't figure that out :)
Overall, it's a really helpful visual timer, especially with its "almost-there" yellow light, and we have had a great experience with it so far. Highly recommended, especially for little boys who love cars and stoplights like my boys do.
Since setting the timer is a bit complicated, I set it for 15 min on AUTO & 30 min on MANUAL and I never, ever reset the times. Almost everything we do can be broken down into one of those time frames. I try to make sure to change the batteries before they completely die so I don't have to go through resetting it. I write the manual settings in the owner's manual, and all our timers are set up exactly the same.
A couple of the timers have not worked & I had to get replacements, but it was fast & easy through Amazon. The replacements worked well. Thankfully, we use them so often that it was quickly apparent that they were defective. If it was easier to set and more reliable, it would get 5 stars!
