About the author

Born in the UK to a British father and American mother, Mike Grist spent his childhood winging between the family farm in Kentucky and a terraced house in Manchester. At 18 he finished his last year of high school in Indiana, hitchhiked coast-to-coast then worked at a summer camp in Massachusetts.
Fascinated by the extremes of human behaviour, Mike got his undergraduate degree in psychology at 21 then followed up with a Masters in motivation theory. Seeking to push himself beyond the normal, he lived in Tokyo, Japan for 11 years, documenting the dark side of the country's gangs, cults and abandoned places. His photography and articles have been featured in the Guardian and the Daily Mail.
Mike is a tournament-winning karate black belt, with training in jiu-jitsu, capoeria and handling arms. As research for the cult element of the Christopher Wren thrillers, Mike extensively interviewed cult survivors. Now he writes about ex-DELTA operator Christopher Wren, nicknamed 'Saint Justice'.
Mike also writes post-apocalyptic fiction as Michael John Grist. Find out more about all his books at www.michaeljohngrist.com

Grist has again built a world out of a unique idea in this series of three books: The Last, The Lost, and The Least. It's a zombie apocalypse, but with an interesting twist! Taking place in the real world, in the not so distant future, readers may identify with famous landmarks in the United States in this book. (and with famous landmarks in Japan and Europe in The Lost)
The lead characters are well-developed, and well-loveable or well-hateable, depending on one's point of view. Given that this book fleshes out some plot points alluded to in the previous two books, I found myself wincing at times when I knew what would happen to my beloved characters. I don't want them to get hurt! But the painful moments give the characters reason to change, reason to fight to make things right.
This book lends itself to more stories, as not all the threads are complete by the end; I look forward to reading the next in this series!
My vocabulary fails me for superlatives, but this is a character driven novel which does not fail to amaze. I read the first two and can't wait for the fourth to come out. I hope Mr. Grist writes ten of them!
It is so easily possible, with all the current genetic and biological weapons research going on. Of course, the groups behind the research would deny it. Want a country where all the infrastructure is intact but the people are gone? I'm an old man, and I have very little faith in governments or multi-national pharmaceutical companies.
The characters in this novel are so real, I miss them. A few books I will read twice, and this is one of them. Yes there are zombies, but it is the characters that stick with you, that pull you into the story and make you stay up reading late even when you have to get up early to work. Details, important explanations, I just can't map it all out for you. I highly recommend it with no reserve whatsoever.
This is a master wordsmith at work. Well worth the time spent reading.
With Robert (Cerulean) being one of my favorite characters early on & through out the series, this book held special interest for me. Learning more in depth about his story & who he was & just how he came to be saved & meet up with the others was a treat. The overlaps where the story was tied together & previous gaps were filled in were both satisfying & emotional. The feelings revisited in the moments of reading those bits of the story came back in a flood.
Ever a master of ambiance & character building, MJG has created another masterpiece! This is an exciting, heart wrenching, suspenseful new piece in the Zombie Ocean series. Don't miss out!! I received an Advance Review Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I can honestly say, I love it!
It is a fantastic book, even for those people that don't normally like to read books, much like myself.
