I must be honest and admit upfront, I was skeptical, even contemptuous, of this book from introduction to its existence to the moment I opened the box.

I was wrong. Dead wrong.

I thought it was going to be a child-like, cutesy, oversimplified, under-thought and overly-precious craft book for dweebs. Nope. It turned out to be a clever, complete and thorough examination of three dimensional objects, how they are constructed, with excellent exploded drawings for each object.

No...not simple geometric shapes...these are muscular, robust objects for real life...what seems like hundreds of objects, laid out and thoughtfully rendered for any person interested in leatherwork, cordwaining, weaving or constructing utilitarian creations.

Yeah, ok, there are no Inuit designs for a dog sled run, or Kite harnesses to lift a sailor from a sinking ship to the safety of shore, or whips, or Swedish dishcloths or other such arcane things. But just about everything else. This book reminds me of the instruction guides sent out to military PX recreation centers so staff and enlisted could wile away time in pursuit of the sublime.

Great book for the adventurous.

I have currently loaned this book out to a friend that I am teaching to make knife sheaths. He is enjoying the book and is learning more about leather work in general. Most leather workers will find something interesting in this book.

I have one at home and got this one for my leather guild's library. The members like it as much as I do!
