The description states the reins have rubber woven in for a secure grip. This along with the price was the main reason I purchased this german martingale set. However, when I received the product, the reins are the typical cotton web type, and the leather quality is really cheap. In fact, there is a product liability warning tag attached, which I have never seen on a piece of horse tack before. If I would have known this, I would have spent more money and purchased a better german martingale. I also needed the product right away. This is the main reason for purchasing this online. Otherwise, I would have driven 100 round miles round trip to a tack shop to purchase a much better quality martingale for about $30 more had I known the product was cheaply made and not as described.

I also bought this set, but at a lower price (go figure). The vendor uses the same photo for all similar items at various prices. Reins were cotton web, not rubberized. The martigale portion is PONY SIZE and did not come close to fitting my student's average size quarter horse. The draw rein portion was so short that it would not even reach the bit with the horse in extreme flexion. I expect it would work on a small pony, perhaps one under 13hh. I agree the leather quality was not great, but it was cheap. Of course now I have spent over $20 in shipping to and from... I hope I can get a refund.

While the product description may say the reins are rubberized, the picture clearly depicts a slotted web rein, which is what I was looking for for my clients. We got a pair, and the quality and workmanship were very nice. They weren't too long, like some of the martingales. They also had nice quality brass finished fittings. The leather was good, and just the simple fact that they were web and slotted made a huge difference for the rider. Other reins available for german martingales were smooth leather, which were impossible to grip, so these are just perfect.
