The Leatherman Tool Group and its History of Quality
In 1975, Leatherman Tool Group founder Tim Leatherman was inspired by leaky pipes and a cranky car on a budget trip to Europe -- and thus the idea for his first pocket survival tool was conceived. Since then, Leatherman has become an internationally recognized company with hundreds of employees and a wide variety of durable, versatile, stylish products. Created with bold designs and truly rugged construction, Leatherman products are a perfect addition for tool kits, emergency sets, and glove compartments everywhere.

All that applies before you even open the tool. On the inside, you get 3 good sizes of flatblade screwdriver, a nicely shaped Phillips, and really decent needle nose/dikes, which actually touch at their tips (unlike the cheapie ones). When you're up a ladder, working on a light fixture or a fan, you have everything you need. When you're not using it, its not so big to carry around in the same pocket as your car keys.
Just the essentials, well laid out, in just the right size. Oh yeah, it's orange, which is a cool color for a knife.
PS, I lost my first Juice a few years ago. I must have tried 4-5 other multi-tools, from the tiny 'fishing' size, to the huge ones with everything. I finally couldn't compromise any more, and ponied up for another Juice. Couldn't be happier.
forums about how this is a great pocket multitool for Wilderness purposes. I believe it also won
some awards in some hiker magazines, or something to that effect.
When I actually got it and started taking it out, I was a little disappointed. I'm not saying
it wasn't a nice tool, just saying that I couldn't see what all the fuss was about. I really
didn't think it was some amazing tool to have out in the bush with me. I mean...you get your
pliers.....and spindly little leaf style knife blade, and a few other screw driver type implements
that you will probably never use out in the bush. I'd rather take any number of swiss army knives
that have the saw.
Again....I'm not saying this isn't a nice tool....I just don't think that hiking, minimalist camping
and the like are where this thing shines. I did find an excellent use for it however....I purchased
the sheath that allows you to carry it in plier form and attached it (along with a few other implements)
to the knife I usually take fishing. This accompanied by my fishing knife and the other pieces I put
together made a complete fishing tool kit for me, and I absolutely love it. The tool really shines in
this fashion. It all just depends on your intended use I guess. I definitely wouldn't purchase it
again, if my intent was for a small multitool for use out in the bush or hiking....I'd definitely go
with a swiss army knife at that point.
They make a few different models of these. I bought another (don't remember the exact model) that had
a lot more tools. It had a saw and even a wine bottle opener (not just a cork screw). The wine bottle
opener was s***t, and when used, it seemed like it might either break, or jump off the lip of the bottle
and stab you. It was fat and heavy, and was the perfect example of a tool trying to do too much. If you
get one of these, I would definitely stick with this one....nice and simple. I gave the other model to my boss.....and I'm just waiting for him to stab himself with the wine bottle opener. Definitely get the sheath
that allows you to carry in pliers form....thats really kind of nice.
What good is a tool that you don't have when you need it? This Juice S2 rides comfortably in my pants pocket and is out to the rescue whenever it is needed, which is generally multiple times per day.
Granted, you can't replace your intake manifold with it, but the pliers are really handy for tightening / loosening small nuts, gripping, grabbing, cutting wire, untying tight knots. The blade is sharp, accessible without opening the handle (great benefit!), and edge-ground on both sides. The real Phillips head and three regular screwdriver tips are easy to open, and give you good reach when you need it. Since Heinekens does not use screw top caps, the cap lifter got a huge workout recently. Haven't opened a can yet though. I have had several Multi-tools over the years and I really, really like these scissors...a lot! Best part: it is always there, in my pocket, ready to deploy at a moment's notice.
What's better than the perfect tool somewhere in a toolbox someplace else? You got it....the Juice S2 in your pocket!
