A beautifully crafted tool with great functionality and durability. However, there were only two issues I wanted to address for potential buyers:

1. From a functional point of view, the Wave is absolutely comparable (check the Leatherman website where you can do side-by-side comparisons of different tools), and significantly cheaper. You may want to look into this.

2. Although aesthetically pleasing, the black handles actually feel rough, almost giving the sensation of running your fingernails down a chalkboard. I tried it for a week, hoping that I would get used to it - but I didn't, so I returned it and bought the Wave.

Personally, I am more comfortable with the usual smooth, metal finish typical of Leatherman tools. I don't think this affects the functionality of the tool in any way, but I was just not pleased with how it felt in the hand.

Not everyone may feel the same way, so if you are considering this purchase, I would try the aluminum handles yourself in person to see if it is a texture you can tolerate. If not, the Wave may be a better option, especially given the comparable functionality, same exceptional construction expected of a Leatherman tool, and significantly cheaper price.

I have quite a few multitools eg. Super Tool 300, Charge TTi as well as Victorinox Spirit and Swisstool. Out of all those multitools my favorite is without a doubt the Charge ALX. The ALX is similar to the Charge TTi but has aluminum handle scales. The titanium on the TTi is supposed to higher end and premium material but it does not feel as good in my hands. It always felt and looked unfinished to me. The ALX on the other hand has smooth, comfortable aluminum scales that looks killer, like a premium quality knife. If scissors are a must then go for the Charge TTi. Personally I rarely use the scissors so the dual bit driver on the ALX is the perfect configuration for me. Its nice to always have a philips and flat head driver/allen key on you (since some jobs require both). Combined with the Leatherman bit kit the ALX is the most capable multitool Ive come across and can tackle most medium duty tasks.

This is the first multi-tool I've ever owned. Everybody I've ever heard has always said: "Do NOT buy a cheap one! You'll regret it." I saw that movie based on that high-adventure guy who got stuck in a cavern for several days by himself with no food and little water and ended up losing is arm. He had a cheap multi-tool and it broke on him. In the movie, he said the same thing: "Don't buy a cheap one." The last place you want a cheap tool like this is in a survival situation as he was. As a mechanic, I learned that lesson many years ago with tools. I even looked at the Gerber and some people said it was junk and then got hassled by Gerber when it did break. Wasn't willing to take the chance as I'm not too impressed with most everything else Gerber makes.

After all my research, Leatherman seems to be the best money can buy.

I just got it yesterday and haven't had any use for it yet, but I played with it a bit. This came with a few extra bits and the sheath. The sheath is neat because you can attach it to your belt either vertically or horizontally. Somebody thought this through.

I got this particular model because of the 154cm steel knife blade. Much better edge retention over 440 steel. Came VERY sharp -I can shave with this knife. In fact, I was considering buying a folding knife (looking at a Benchmade), but I may not now since I have this knife.

I'm VERY happy with my purchase decision.

Great tool. Love it!
Highly recommended!

Yup, lost mine after about a year, or hopefully one of my kids "borrowed it" and it will turn up somewhere. Absolutely fantastic tool, high quality everything, and sure, it's heavier and bulkier than a pocketknife, but it's really not hard to get used to. It's the smallest full featured multi tool I've ever seen, and has a good pocket clip. I'm a pro musician, always having to adjust instruments, open battery doors and electronic parts, etc., and I make use of the 6 different sizes of screwdrivers. That flexibility on one tool is huge, especially when I'm out at a gig. You give up the scissors for the extra driver, but it's worth it for my needs. The knife is so sharp you don't really need scissors anyway. I'm not kidding. But if you don't need a lot of screwdrivers on hand, just buy another charge model with scissors, I'm sure it's awesome.

Possible cons that I learned to live with: the bottle/can opener is super strong, great quality metal, but it's so thick it's hard to get under a bottle cap. You can stop worrying, I've still been able to get it to open beers, it just has to be worked around the cap a little bit. I had the Skeletool cx too, another awesome tool, and it almost pops the caps off by itself with its excellent design carabiner/opener. Not so with the Charge, but frankly, I don't need to open beers any faster, and the Charge has many more useful tools than the Skeletool.
There is nothing fancy about how the Charge opens up, it doesn't easily flip open or anything, but the knives are available to open with one hand when the tool is closed, so unless you want to show off your pliers-deploying prowess, that really doesn't matter.
The pliers are small and not very comfortable if you really have to squeeze down, but that's the trade off for having a small tool.
