But thanks to the TSA, I have a third option. There are lots of confiscated Micras available on eBay for very near the cost of shipping back mine, so I'll take that option. I get a screw off the purchased knife and have replacement parts if anything else breaks. But it still leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth that Leatherman wouldn't send me a 10-cent screw. That policy makes no sense to me, other than to make customers question the financial wisdom of fixing the knife.

I've carried a Leatherman Wave (either the original or the "new" version) for 15 years. As indispensable as that tool is, I always wished it had a better pair of scissors and a tweezer. Then I got a Micra for Christmas. I carried it around because I got it as a gift. Besides, it fits perfectly in the leather Leatherman holster, right next to the Wave. I used it just a few days later when I got a splinter at Home Depot. Then I started using the fingernail cleaner a lot, and noticed that I've made it through the flu season this year without getting sick, something I can't seem to remember doing - ever. And there was the screw under the dash of my car that defied removal because every screwdriver I had was too bulky - but the Micra fit. I never thought I'd use one of the blades - the one with the bottle opener. I open bottles with the Wave using the Bic lighter bottle opener method (Google it, master it, and you'll never be without a bottle opener). But one of the kids had been practicing overhand knots with his shoelaces, and there were about 8 tightly cinched knots one after another holding his shoes on. That blade with the thin tip and bottle opener was perfect for prying open the knots.
You know that a tool has become a permanent part of your everyday carry when you often find yourself with that tool in hand. That's the Micra - it fills in the few deficiencies of the Wave, and then adds a few unanticipated capabilities. Conversely, the Wave provides the features the Micra lacks. They perfectly complement one another, together yielding a tool that meets most of my daily needs.
My daughter dropped it while sitting. It landed on the key ring, which bent into the handle, preventing it from closing. I had it to use a pair of pliers to pull it out. Since then, I also picked up the Squirt PS4, which is much more solid and really well designed.
The way you modify it to have tighter scissors, is by getting a hammer, and a punch with a flat edge on it. Put the rounded side of the rivet that holds the scissors together on a hard flat service (I used the edge of an old hard wood dresser), then proceed to firmly tap on the flat side of the rivet. Go slow, and don't hit it as hard as you can, but you need to do it pretty firmly. Keep checking every 3 or 4 taps. Go too hard, and you'll lock up the scissors.
Get the sissor one. One day while standing in the check out line at the drug store you may have the occasion to cut open the plastic seal on a prescription bottle for a little old lady who may have a beautiful grandaughter or a grandson who is a wealthy divorced surgeon. And because of this tool, you may find the love of your life or at least a wealthy prospective mate.
