Following on from the 40th Anniversary Deluxe version of the Ramones’ debut, comes the expanded edition of the original punks’ 2nd album – another 30 minute opus of buzzsaw rock. Released in January 1977, it featured a clutch of Ramones’ classics including ‘Swallow My Pride,’ ‘Pinhead,’ ‘Suzy is a Headbanger,’ ‘California Sun’ (a hit for the Rivieras in the 60s) and of course the controversial ‘Carbona Not Glue’. Produced by Tony Bongiovi and Tommy Ramone, ‘Leave Home’ also featured the engineering talents of Ed Stasium, who would go on to work with the band over numerous other releases, and is on hand to compile this 40th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the album.

This is a genuinely deluxe edition offering the opportunity to hear on Disc 1 to compare Ed Stasium’s powerhouse anniversary remix with the original, together with an abundance of previously unreleased material on Disc 2 (33 tracks including rough mixes of the entire album, 18 alternate mixes and instrumentals, both sides of the ‘Sheena is a Punk Rocker’ single and the track ‘Babysitter’, which for legal reasons replaced ‘Carbona Not Glue’ on UK pressings of ‘Leave Home’) and then a blistering previously unreleased live performance of 19 songs at CBGB’s, New York City on 2nd April1977, three months after the release of ‘Leave Home’.
Luxuriating in all this you’ll appreciate anew precisely why the Ramones were so good and wonder anew why ‘Leave Home’ didn’t have an even greater impact when first released.
