"This book is layers upon layers of events that weave into one another. At times you feel like you are reading numerous characters stories but they are all Eva's. Glimpses of who Brynn really is flicker in her dreams but there is nothing and no one to help with those memories. Every time you think Eva is about to break free from the vines of darkness they grow stronger against her. I kept thinking to myself please let this end for her. ... please give this character the happiness that she deserves ... please let her find her way.--Amazon review What I can tell you is that you need to keep reading ... what I can also tell you is you do get that happiness but then ...... I laid my kindle down and whispered .. "what the frick" ... I could not believe it.... So now I need to know when is book 2 out."--Amazon review "There were a few times that I thought I could not continue you. However I am so glad I did finish the book. It left me needing the next book. Eva starts out with a very rough life and reading about her story will have you rooting for her to succeed and overcome her horrible childhood. Rose is so frustrating in what she does and how she handles situations. I actually yelled at my kindle while reading her story throughout the book. Be sure to have a box of tissues nearby."--Amazon review "This book was quite different from my normal read. I usually expect a book to progress with a "traditional" story through dialogue. This book reminded my of a puzzle in that you are slowly given the pieces until the whole thing is laid out for you. I really enjoyed the unique style of this book and look forward to the rest of Eva/Brynn's story. "--Amazon review "Jennifer Sivec shattered my heart with this book and it's still in pieces. By the middle of the book, I had to send her a message to see if she has a support group in place for her readers. If I can offer any advice: Read This Book."--Amazon review "This story is not easy to read and I found myself holding my breath and then letting it go as I kept hoping her story would have a happy ending. When the little twist of what happened to her adoptive father Thomas came about I was like how did I not know that? Why didn't it click. I will be buying this next book as soon as I can because where it left off I need to know what else will Brynn endure in her life, can the past be left in the past so she can move forward? The plot was a steady pace and kept me wanting to find out more, the characters were well developed to me and I could feel what the main character was going through."--Amazon review "Usually I write a review straight after reading the book. However this review has been a struggle. Don't get me wrong- this is a brilliant well written emotional read that tore me apart. I'm just hesitant to review as I don't want to spoil anything. So all I'm going to say is if your like me and your a sucker for an emotional read then I recommend this story."--Amazon review "The story "Leaving Eva" has a very strong beginning and drew me immediately into the story and kept me there to the end. It has a number of side stories that developed the deeper I got into the book. Author Jennifer Sivec touched on a number of issues that I find to be very deep and personal. She has done a great amount of research into societal taboos and I love the way she shows how the visible and invisible scars from abuse and self-abuse can hurt for years, but with willingness and hard work, can be overcome through time and the support of loving friends and family. Read ... "Leaving Eva" to discover the secrets written into this novel. Jennifer has a way with words and character development that has her on my list of authors to watch!"--Amazon review--This text refers to the paperback edition.

Eva (later becoming Brynne) is dealt a crap hand pretty much her entire life. Abused in some manner by all people who are supposed to love and take care of her. Reading about what happened to her made me so sick to my stomach that it was really hard to read and get into the story.
Enter Adam. He loves her so much and tries so hard to get her through her memories of her past while trying so hard to live out his future with her. I applaud him for being one big positive in her otherwise negative filled life.
I finally got into the story at the very end... and then it ended on quite a cliffhanger. As hard as it was to get into this book, I feel like I HAVE to know what happens next.
The writing of the story was kind of hard to follow. I felt like it jumped around in time without any warning and you kind of had to figure out where you were and who was talking. 3 stars.
Let me tell you a little about the book. It's about a girl that is abandoned when she was young. She is adopted when she's about 5 years old. It turns out that her adoptive dad is a heavy drinker and gets abusive when he's drunk. Her name when she was born is Eva but her adoptive mother changes it to Brynn. Brynn goes through a lot in her life. She marries her high school sweetheart. When they start having problems Brynn/Eva is forced to face her past.
It is a really wonderful book. It took me a while to read but once I got about halfway through or so I couldn't put it down. I needed to know what happened to Brynn/Eva. It really didn't help that it ended on a major cliffhanger. As soon as I was done I went to see if there was a second book. I was so glad to see that there was and I immediately bought it. It is a dark book, it deals with drugs, drinking and abuse but it does it in such a way I don't think I would mind if my 13 year old daughter read it. It's a great book everyone should read it.
Great job, Jennifer. You gave me the dark that I love so very much and you have a fan for life.
LEAVING EVA US a heartbreaking tragic story whose fulcrum is the wrongs done by many in parental roles (whether parent, step, foster, or adoptive) to.each other and to the children in their care. Little EVA, hideously abandoned, is adopted by a emotionally immature couple who should never have been near children. Her birth father was vicious, her birth mother co-dependent. Her adoptive father is violent both toward his wife and toward Eva (now Brynn). As an adult, Brynn strives for professional and marital success--but deep ugly shadows of the past lurk still.

This book ripped my heart out! Abuse, love,
loss, trying to survive life... You name it, it's
in this book! It did take me a few chapters to
get used to the writing style, as it is different
than most. The character development is
CRAZY GOOD! As you get further into the
book you will see why all of the details are
crucial to the story line. Definitely a five star
