John Bonham, John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant came together in 1968 as Led Zeppelin. Over the next decade, the band would become one of the most influential, innovative and successful groups in modern music, selling more than 300 million albums worldwide. Their songs are some of the most celebrated in rock n roll history that, to this day, resonate with fans young and old around the globe. Still, no matter how many times you may have listened to their music, you ve never heard Led Zeppelin like this before.
With the 2014 release of deluxe editions of Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II, & Led Zeppelin III, the band will launch an extensive reissue program of all nine of its studio albums in chronological order, each remastered by guitarist and producer Jimmy Page. Led Zeppelin will also open its vaults to share dozens of unheard studio and live recordings, with each album featuring a second disc of companion audio comprised entirely of unreleased music related to that album.
"The material on the companion discs presents a portal to the time of the recording of Led Zeppelin, " says Page. "It is a selection of work in progress with rough mixes, backing tracks, alternate versions, and new material recorded at the time."
The Led Zeppelin legend began in January of 1969 with the group s eponymous debut. From the opening salvo of "Good Times Bad Times, " on through to "Babe I m Gonna Leave You, " "Communication Breakdown, " and "Dazed And Confused, " the album introduced the band s unmistakable sound and left an indelible mark on the music landscape. Led Zeppelin has been certified diamond by the RIAA for sales over 10 million and was inducted into the Grammy® Hall of Fame in 2004.
The companion audio for Led Zeppelin features a previously unreleased performance recorded on October 10, 1969 at the Olympia Theatre in Paris. The nine-song set features seven tracks from the album, including an epic 15-minute version of "Dazed And Confused, " as well as "Heartbreaker" and "Moby Dick, " which would debut on Led Zeppelin II later that month.
Led Zeppelin continues to be honored for its pivotal role in music history. The band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1995, received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005, and a year later was awarded with the Polar Music Prize in Stockholm. Founding members Jones, Page and Plant along with Jason Bonham, the son of John Bonham took the stage at London s O2 Arena in 2007 to headline a tribute concert for Ahmet Ertegun, a dear friend and Atlantic Records founder. The band was honored for its lifetime contribution to American culture at the Kennedy Center Honors in 2012. In January of 2014, the band won their first ever Grammy award as Celebration Day, which captured their live performance at the Ertegun tribute concert, was named Best Rock Album.

The packaging is perfect. The vinyl is flat (all 3 records) heavy and quiet. The CDs are carefully packaged inside a rice paper inner sleeve, then a white paper 2nd inner sleeve, then the actual outer (mini LP) sleeve.
The book is beautiful, with nice photos....many I've never seen. Great replica press kit. Nice litho of the album art, numbered.
The big deal here is the John Davis/Jimmy Page remaster. Perfectly done, and well balanced.
I have the original Diament mastered CDs, original vinyl, 90's complete recordings cube box, SHM Japan CDs, last mini LP replica black box, Classic Records 200g vinyl, and 2 other reissue vinyl cuts.
I rank this master right up with, if not better than, the Piros cut vinyl and the Classic Records vinyl, and ahead of the Diament original cd, and miles ahead of everything else.
I love the Olympia recording. I thought I knew what to expect here, but actually feel that it sounds better than any of the bootlegs of this that I've heard and better than what I own. It's a great historical document, and what we have here is a performance restored to the best level it can be.....and, IMO, an improvement over what has circulated.
This is a top notch and complete reissue that gives this 2 channel, lifelong Zep fan everything I could have wanted and more.
At the Amazon price protection guarantee of 111.00, this is an absolute steal, and the most excited and satisfied I've been regarding a reissue, ever.
I am very familiar with this recording, own it in several forms, and have owned it in several others (cass., 8 track, etc..)
An absolute must own set, IMO, for a fan of Led Zeppelin.
Thank you Jimmy Page, for a wonderful gift in 2014.
However, the Paris concerts that is included on the bonus disc is great to access to and listen to... it's one of the concerts where the band was hitting its stride doing public performances of material from the album. With only a few "live" recordings released previously this is a welcome addition to the Led Zeppelin canon.
I listen via McIntosh receiver, McIntosh SACD player, B&W bookshelf speakers and Kplisch subwoofer. In the only mode it is available, stereo. It turns up loud nicely, great stereo balance and most notably to me is the low end, bass and drums, seem to really come through.
I have listened to in my car, with just the standard Ford CD stereo system and is great.
I have never been a big fan of Led Zep live versions and this continues with the live Paris second CD. Too much Jimmy Page playing random stuff. It's nice to have the second CD, live Paris, but I probably won't listen to it too much.
The packaging and booklet are cool and well done.
