Better New Mattress
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Like so many people, the entrepreneurs behind Leesa had trouble sleeping. We bought beds offering all sorts of benefits, from coils to memory foam - nothing worked. What’s more, the experience of trying out mattresses in showrooms with a salesman peering down on us was horrible. None of the features actually helped us sleep better – probably because most of them were hocus-pocus.
What makes your product special?
With Leesa, we’ve married three high-performance foam layers to achieve the perfect balance of cooling comfort, body contouring and pressure relief. Our 2” Avena foam top layer is perforated and convoluted to provide maximum airflow and the perfect balance of cushiony bounce and sink. The Leesa also features a beautiful, seamless polyester blend four-stripe cover that feels and looks so good you won’t want to put sheets on it.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
If you want tomorrow to be different from today, you need to do something different today. That’s what we did and our customer reviews confirm we’re on the right path.”

I've been looking forward to buying a new mattress for years to upgrade on my old full size, and I went through a ton of research looking for the best one. Kept hearing about the new disruptive mattress companies like Tuft and Needle, Casper, and Leesa, and eventually went with Leesa due to reviews from Amazon, The Sweet Home, and Sleep Like the Dead - all really reputable reviewers in my opinion.
I'll start with the cons, because they were major:
-This mattress sleeps really stinking hot. Listen to the negative reviews on here, people. I've never tended hot before in my life, and I woke up every day sweaty and clammy. I bought the Leesa specifically because the latex layer is supposed to be cool, but this was not true at all in my experience. For this reason alone I would not get this mattress.
-Edge support matters, and the Leesa (or most other memory foam mattresses...) has almost none. Sitting on the edge of the bed to put on socks or for romantic encounters or just to get off the bed were all far less enjoyable/doable.
-Maybe I'm just not a memory foam guy, so this is subjective, but the firmness of the bed had this really uncomfortable juxtaposition with the softness of the memory foam, almost like it was too soft despite decent firmness. I'm sure this is personal preference, but I'm going to avoid memory foam's "hug" in the future.
-the lingering gas smell was still noticeable 2 months later. Definitely decreased over a couple weeks, but for the past 6 weeks has been at a constant nagging annoyance level. Not a fan.
-Amazon has amazing customer service and were able to process my return of the mattress. Obv this has nothing to do with Leesa, but really wanted to give a shout out to Amazon
-The mattress looks great, with the nice lycra/cotton cover and great branding. how nice it looked made me want to like it more
-Easy shipping and unpacking, as advertised. This does not disappoint
-I only had back pain for the first week (which was already more than I had ever experienced), but at least it went away fairly quickly as my body adjusted. I saw that other reviewers had constant back pain, which fortunately I did not experience. I'm pretty young and have no history of ever having back pain though, so I wouldn't put too much in store of my experience here, but I'll list this as a pro.
Overall, if you're a huge memory foam mattress fan, then maybe give this a shot. But the sleeping hot and just the overall tendencies of memory foam aren't for me, despite the ridiculous amount of advertising that tries to tell me these mattresses are for everybody. Obviously this is all a matter of personal preference, so take my review with a grain of salt, and hopefully this or another mattress works for you. Good luck with your mattress search - it's a tougher slog than I hoped.
A representative from Leesa called me last month to follow up on our Leesa mattress experience. After I originally left this review two years ago we decided to keep the mattress because we were overwhelmed with the idea of starting our search over only to be disappointed again. As a sensitive side sleeper who sleeps really hot I regretted that decision every morning as I woke up stiff, sore and overly warm. On the upside, we never had any problem with the mattress holding up. The sides never sagged, it never developed any permanent dips and I never did start rolling into my husband who is much heavier than I am. When she called, she offered us a chance to exchange the two year old Leesa for their newer Sapira mattress. The Sapira is a hybrid mattress with springs. We took them up on the generous offer and are so glad we did! Although still firm, it is exceptionally comfortable and sleeps much cooler than the original Leesa. Even my husband who can sleep on anything notices a big improvement in his sleep. Now the only problem I'm having is I want to stay in bed in the morning and look forward to getting back to it every evening. Not a bad problem! I'm grateful to the company for reaching out even though it had been two years and it was my own fault for not sending it back according to their great trial period. If you can handle extra firm, and don't mind sleeping hot, then the less expensive Leesa could work for you. Just be sure to use the hundred day trial as it is intended and you have nothing to lose. However, if you are a sensitive sleeper or sleep hot like I do you should look into the Sapira and decide if it's worth the extra money for you. Both my husband and I would recommend the Sapira any day!
We have been sleeping on our Leesa mattress for almost 3 months now. The first week was pretty miserable. We both woke up stiff and sore, feeling muscles we didn't even know existed. Thankfully I had read some reviews that had mentioned this as well, and they assured that once their bodies adjusted they slept very comfortably. After the first week, we noticed better and better sleep quality as our bodies adjusted to a new type of mattress. Even though it is a good overall mattress for the price point, there are a couple of things I should mention for other people who rely on reviews to help them make a good on line purchase. I do have constant back and neck pain, and sadly seem to be something of a "princess and the pea" sort of sleeper. My husband however can sleep on almost anything. We decided on the Leesa over the Casper because a few reviewers had mentioned that it is a little firmer than the Casper, and firmer is supposed to be better for people with back problems. Unfortunately, I find it a little too firm as I wake up with sore shoulders and hips. Not to mention I just wish for a little more soft, cozy comfort as I'm falling asleep and waking up. Also, we had read the top latex-like layer would sleep cool and that was really important to me. I was disappointed again because I feel like it sleeps hot rather than cool and find myself waking up to roll over to a cooler spot. My husband doesn't notice it sleeping hot at all, so clearly it is a personal preference issue. When my husband called the company to inquire about a mattress pad that may make this bed a little softer and cooler, the person answering the phone could barely understand or speak English. Instead of helping to resolve our problem he was trying to sell my husband another mattress and they got nowhere. Next my husband contacted the company via live chat and he was directed to a mattress pad sold on Amazon that sells for several hundred dollars. Needless to say that is not exactly what we were hoping for when we just bought a new mattress. We are coming to the end of our 100 night trial now and need to make a final decision whether to keep it and invest in a mattress pad or send it back and try the Casper. I tried to leave this review directly on the email link the company sent to me, but the 5 star rating was already marked for me, and when I tried to click on the 3 star rating, it would not allow the change. I feel like I should mention some positives as well. It was delivered quickly as promised and set up was super easy. We didn't notice any overwhelming smell as it aired out. It seems to be made of nice quality materials and we haven't noticed any sink holes developing yet. My husband weighs about 100 lbs more than me and I am not rolling down into him all night long as I had been on every other mattress we've ever owned.

It was amazing and such a relief; I bought it for the bed I used to sleep on, my spare bed, and have slept on it only a few times since purchasing.
Not too soft not too firm- just right! I think Goldilocks would agree! Perfectly comfortable!!
