About the Author
USA Today bestselling author Patricia McLinn’s novels—cited by reviewers for warmth, wit and vivid characterization – have won numerous regional and national awards and been on national bestseller lists. In addition to her romance and women’s fiction books, Patricia is the author of the Caught Dead in Wyoming mystery series, which adds a touch of humor and romance to figuring out whodunit. Patricia received BA and MSJ degrees from Northwestern University. She was a sports writer (Rockford, Ill.), assistant sports editor (Charlotte, N.C.) and—for 20-plus years—an editor at the Washington Post. She has spoken about writing from Melbourne, Australia to Washington, D.C., including being a guest-speaker at the Smithsonian Institution. She is now living in Northern Kentucky, and writing full-time. Patricia loves to hear from readers through her website, Facebook and Twitter.

The emotions of this rodeo themed story have been building for over 20 years but fortunately the storyline remains in present day. The ending is bittersweet.
The giddy mood of cynicism that overtakes a newsroom when a big story combines with management ineptitude had infected the half-dozen staffers on hand. It’s harmless, if tasteless.
I think I’d skip a want ad with job duties of Draw attention of angry bull, keep it while everyone else flees to safety.
Animal Rights versus those that love and care for animals:
“No, fed up. They call themselves animal rights backers. Wonder how many of them have stayed up all night with a sick horse, or been out in a blizzard helping a calf get born, or chased down a cow that didn’t want the medicine it needed to stay alive, or held a loyal old dog when he just couldn’t stay with you any longer no matter how much he wanted to.”
Which head does the thanking:
Didn’t surprise nobody when he dumped her, because it would take a brain to see her quality, and those rodeo cowboys wear their jeans so tight they’re forever squeezing the parts that do their thinking.”
Patricia McLinn is a must read, must buy author.
I will re-re-read this story and look forward to more works by this author.
I think Ms. McLinn's books belong on the main stream best seller lists on a par with Elizabeth George and P.D. James but more accessible. Now if you'll excuse me I have to get the third in the series and gobble that one up!
