DESTINY'S WINGS — D.S. Schmeckpeper: Fantastic story, Great characters that draw you in. Some classical fantasy mixed with a new pantheon. Had to buy the rest of the books. WELL worth the read.
WANDERING TO BELONG — Jess Mountifield: Not a long story, A little rough i think and doesn't flow very well. You don't see the ending coming though.
WHEN SHADOWS FALL — Bruce Blake: Actually didn't complete this story. Just didn't draw me in.
PARADOX: THE ANGELS ARE HERE — Patti Roberts: Some seriously messed up charaters in this one. They sure seemed to be set up for you to be repulsed by them. This was just long enough to set a foundation for more story but it wasn't enough for me to be interested in following up.
WERELORD THAL: A RENAISSANCE WEREWOLF TALE — Tracy Falbe: Interesting take on the werewolf story.
THE DRAGIL: BROKEN MAGIC — Holly Barbo:Short story with a fast pace. Just a little to predictable.
THE AVALON TRILOGY I: THE STAR REALM — Julie Elizabeth Powell
THE AVALON TRILOGY II: INVASION — Julie Elizabeth Powell
THE AVALON TRILOGY III: SECRETS OF THE ICE — Julie Elizabeth Powell: These three stories do a great job of turning what you think a fantasy story should be on its head. The characters are consistent and relateable. The plot twists are humorous and well thought out. Very well done works.
D.S. Shmeckpeper, Destiny’s Wings: Very good, innovative story about a motley crew of elves and other magical creatures trying to prevent the takeover of the world by an evil imprisoned god. Has both romance and adventure: by the end, I think all the surviving main characters are paired up. While this book is part of a series, the story is self-contained, not a cliffhanger.
Jess Mountfield, Wandering to Belong: Good short story about a tough girl fleeing goblins and meeting a dragon.
Bruce Blake, When Shadows Fall: Kind of a dark story about magic. The beginning held my interest, but I gave up after a while. The author clearly has some talent, but I find his work disturbing for reasons I can't explain.
Patti Roberts, Paradox: The Angels are Here: I read just a bit and didn't like it.
Tracy Falbe, Werelord Thal: My favorite book in this bundle. An achingly beautiful werewolf tale, in which the protagonist tries to avenge his mother, who was burned as a witch, while he falls for the step-daughter of the magistrate who condemned his mother. The author is every bit as talented as fantasy authors who are far more famous. The characters are so vivid and the story is riveting. I consider this one of the greatest fantasy novels ever written. I had to buy the sequel, which unfortunately is not quite as good.
Holly Barbo, The Dragil: The beginning of the book, before the protagonist embarks on his quest, is well done. Then I got bored and didn't finish it.
Julie Elizabeth Powell, The Avalon Trilogy: I see that the top reviewer for this bundle liked these stories, but I didn't. The writing seemed cliched and amateurish, and I gave up quickly.
Been tauted as suitable for youth because--it is n o t. I truly enjoyed only one of the various authors and that one was too short and ended unsatisfactorily.
