Skylar and her immaturity had me wanting to climb into this book and slap her – HARD! For a women graduating from Harvard, she is pretty clueless. Brandon needs to wake and let her go for good; it really would be in his best interest. I tried to like Skylar and all most DNF this book because of her; however I kept turning the pages to see how this story ended.
Brandon, for a billionaire tycoon, he can’t seem to grab a hold of his personal life to save himself. He tries to show Skylar his love for her, but she just isn’t seeing it. They fight, they make-up, rinse and repeat.
Overall I liked the story line, but felt that was being drawn out (not sure why) and some of the description(s) of people/places/things might be pages long (a bit much).
Sorry, but I have to dock the author a star for editing errors. Seriously, this book needs a good going over.
I love that the author takes us through a realistic journey of Skylar's life... lots of auxiliary characters with just enough info, but not too much that you have to skim pages at a time. I also appreciate the twists, foreshadowing happens a bit, but not enough where there is no reason to keep reading.
The piece that is driving me crazy is our beloved heroin, Skylar. Yes, she's young. Yes, she's hasn't had an easy go of things. But she's down right cruel. She is always keeping our guy at an arms length, til something happens, then says "he broken down all my mental barriers" uhhhh ... Or when He said he loved her because she was genuine and authentic... but continues to make him beg, chase, woo her.
It gets really annoying when someone so strong goes out of her way to look for ways to be the victim.
I love longer stories, so you can become lost in their world, but 400+ pages and ends in a cliff hanger? Uff.
Likely, I will skim book two (thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited) because I am interested in how the story ends (and if our girl quits the selfish act)... but not sure I will actually read it.
So after thinking about my review all night, I think I might have to lower my review to a 2 star. Which is awful becuase I think I might really like the author.
Here's the thing. Our leading lady isn't young. She's ignorantly immature.
--Abusive both physically and emotionally.
--Plays the victim, though, he has been through just as much non-sense in his life.
--If she's really played her father's keeper since high school AND on her second career AND already had a long standing (though bad) romantic relationship-- Why is she Insistent about running every time things get a bit bumpy? You'd think after graduating Harvard Law, she'd have some ability to communicate.
--She scolds him consistently for hiding/omitting things... AND DOES THE SAME THINGS ABOUT THINGS MUCH WORSE.
The story behind skylar and Brandon’s love is one full of twist and turns and one that in the end doesn't end. Yes, there is a little cliffhanger at the end of the book but the story is so beautiful its one that you don't see coming yet expected. I cannot wait to consume the next book because I love their story and I love their love (cliche i know, but you'll understand once you read)
What makes this story so beautiful is the fact that both brandon and skylar have muddy pasts. Neither one is perfect and it’s those pasts that should really bring them together yet they are tearing them apart. You can see that growth on the part of both needs to take place and with a love like theirs I know they will find a way (or at least I'm hoping)
For her introductory book Nicole has really shown that she is capable of writing beautiful romance full of angst and surprises. Each new occurrence in the book was always a surprise and caught me off guard. Most romance novels can be very predictable (I love that as well) but Nicole has shown that even when I thought I had figured out the outcome I was totally wrong.
