The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds - Collectors Edition Game Guide

Hard on the heels of the releases of Nintendo's latest game in the Zelda franchise - "A Link Between Worlds" - Prima Publishers has issued a companion game guide in a collectors edition.

For this amateur gamer I find these Prima guides indispensable. The guide is an encyclopedia of walk through helps, location of hidden items and hint for solving puzzles and defeating various evils doers. Numerous world maps in the back of the book are keyed with locations of places to visit, to avoid, and treasure locations and temples.

You certainly don't need a guidebook to play this game. Some folks feel a guide detracts from the challenge of solving the various riddles and defeating the bosses. I find having the guide very helpful when I reach a dead end, but that's one person's opinion.

The collector's edition is a large hardbound book measuring 8.5 inches by 11, gilt edged and 320 pages long. The cover boards are light green with a stylized gold border with a Zelda/Triforce design imprinted on the front cover. To my knowledge this is the fifth Zelda Collectors Edition published by Prima - the only difference is the other editions is the color of the hardbound boards.

Highly recommend as an attractive Legend of Zelda collectable and a useful companion to a challenging game.

This is how a walk through should be. After having experienced a couple of (what I consider to be) bad walk through books I almost didn't purchase this. But then the Nerd inside of me got the better of me and I bought this Collector's edition. I'm not really a fan of the green color to be honest but the book it's self is pretty sweet looking. The gold looks nice and the hardback is tough and the pages are thick. This looks and feels like a quality book overall.

The guide itself is amazing. If you follow it from start to finish you will get literally every item and do everything there is to do. The guide has a mixture of pictures and words that help you to make your way through the whole game. (I'm a little over halfway at this point). I'm loving it, ALBW is a great game and this is the perfect Strategy guide for it.

I'm a big fan of strategy guides. It's not that I need the help to finish the game, I just like making sure I get everything found in the game. I also love to read background information on the game's creation, maybe what the team was thinking when they did certain things, and any extra goodies that can be stuffed into a book. A Link between World's is a big game for being on such a small system and this guide provides everything you need to not "go at it alone." Every collectible, heart container, etc. is documented in a very readable fashion with some nice images so you don't get lost. The hardback version is a really attractive cover as well that looks awesome under the coffee table in the living room. Finally, with the hardcover version you get a nice framed lithograph that looks nice hanging on the wall next to my game stack.

The guide's walk-through goes in the best order to help you explore all areas of both Hyrule and Lorule
Clear description and pictures to help you find/get all pieces of heart and Maiamai.
Includes treasure hunting in the walkthough, you will get rich fast.
Great strategies for beating bosses and other monsters.
Hardcover version has a beautiful cover and the edges of the pages are gold :)

Con (really only one):
There are a fair number of directional inaccuracies and other errors in the guide, many of which crop up in the dungeons. Take the directions with a grain of salt. Use your best judgement and you won't get off track. This is the only reason I can't give it 5 stars.

I give this Prima guide a hearty recommendation. The hardcover / gold edged version I ordered is gorgeous. The guide basically runs down the main game and all of the extra side quests. There is a complete list of heart pieces and the little octopus things (forget their name) which are needed for item upgrading. I didn't get into too much detail regarding the locations of the extras since I am playing through without the guide. I mainly bought it as a nice collector's edition book to accompany my game, as well as offer a bit of assistance on my later plays through if I am trying to get 100% of all extras.

There are several maps showing both worlds and the location of many treasures and other extras.

This is a beautiful book however I must have missed when reading about it that it is hard cover and has gold edged pages. Not that it is a bad thing but I was expecting your typical "magazine" style guide. It feels wrong to write in this to check off your items etc. Not the most portable at the size and weight that it is. A true Zelda collected will love this. For me I would have preferred the magazine style, that is the only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5.
