Reviews claimed it was small fitting, so I ordered a size up, but I should have ordered my normal size. I had anticipated layering up under it so kept the bigger size. Problem was I couldn't layer much at all under it without roasting. I wish I had ordered my true size. I felt like I was swallowed up in the size up coat. I am now trying to decide if I want to get this coat in a smaller size (my true size) and resell my other one or get a lighter weight coat for this coming winter season. Having lost some weight since last season, I am fearing how baggy this coat will be this winter.
There is a number of zip-up pockets scattered all over this coat. It is awesome how much you can store in it. Also the sleeves have cuffs that allow you to hook the cuff to your thumb to hold your sleeve over your glove. This is great during snowy conditions. During non snow wear, it can be a bit annoying, but I was usually able to keep the cuff pushed up enough to keep it out of my way.
Overall I am very pleased with the jacket and it's performance. I am 5'0", about 150lbs., with a 36G chest. The large fit me perfectly and comfortably, not squashing my boobs, even with layering. There are lots of nice little pockets with zippers to keep items close and secure. The construction of the jacket was great for the wind, and overall kept me warm, though I also did do quite a bit of layering. I often wore a thin zip-up hoodie, a t-shirt, and either a long sleeve thermal top, or a medium weight turtleneck underneath everything. I liked the little thumb loops provided at the ends of the sleeves. The sleeves weren't overly long, which is often a problem for me as I am so short. The tail of the jacket came down just barely over most of my butt.
Considering how warm it was, I did not find it to be excessively bulky or cumbersome, or heavy.
My biggest complaint is that I knew I was going to be in the rain a lot, as well as near some waterfalls, yet the coat was not truly waterproof as advertised. Some of our circumstances may have been a bit more extreme, but we did a 5 miles round trip hike to the site of a crashed airplane one day. The wind was driving hard and it was raining and sleeting. By the end of the hike my coat was indeed quite wet and heavy. I thought perhaps it was restricted to the exterior, but when I unzipped and removed the coat, my underlying lightweight hoodie was also a little wet. I had to hang the coat on a towel rack in the hotel overnight in order to dry it out. In all fairness, it did take quite the beating that day, and it did not get nearly as wet on any of the others days during the trip, despite seeing lots of rain.
Based on the money spent, I felt this was a worthwhile purchase and I would buy it again, I just caution against using words like 'waterproof' when an item really isn't. Perhaps it is more of a very robust water-resistant instead.
I dislike how Amazon only allows for whole stars rather than allowing for halves. This is a solid 4.5, but since I can't give that, I dropped it to a 4 due to not being truly waterproof. I hope you find this review helpful.
