Great Reed - best synthetic out there

Legere Sax reeds are amazing. When I first started playing sax, it was for a HS pep band. We did a lot of sitting, then standing when there was a time out or quarter break when we played. Inevitably, I'd chip the end of my reed - sometimes a brand new one. The Legere reeds are the best out there - I've read hours on different sax forums, and then bought several reeds to try out. The Legeres are the best sounding and most comfortable for me. And they have all the benefits of a synthetic reed: easy to play, doesn't chip, and easy to get used to playing these reeds. You don't need to soak in water or hold them in your mouth to get them "wet." Economical. They last a long time, and are much cheaper (over time) thatn using cane reeds. And for me, they sound about 90% as good as a can reed. I've only been playing for a a couple of years, and not seriously. I'm sure that a better sax player could make them sound better than I do.

Pretty nice reed

This is my second reed purchased from this brand, and I am very pleased with their products. I am a beginner soprano sax player, and I purchased this reed simply because I only play small parts on certain songs. I didn't want to have my wood reed drying out when I needed it most. This reed does take some getting used to. It will feel different in your mouth as you play since it is made of a synthetic material. I would say that it is smoother and easier to move around than a wood reed. However, wood reeds seem to be easier to keep in a stable position since the wood provides friction. The sound is still good to me when I play, but I would say that wood reeds still sound warmer. But, I think each player will have to come to their own conclusion.

Anyway, these reeds are NOT indestructible. If you accidently bite them or bend them, they will warp. This can be avoided by treating them as you would a wood reed. Though, wood reeds are still the more delicate of the two.

Overall, I would strongly recommend owning this reed. It's not terribly expensive to own anyway, so even if it is to try one out like I did, it will make a great backup even if you prefer wood reeds.

Great synthetic reed

I have used conventional reeds for most of my playing experience. The problems that I had with conventional reeds is that they would frequently split longitudinally, or require a great deal of moisture. Synthetic reeds have been know to have many quality control issues and inconsistency but my first experience with this particular reed has been positive. It's comfortable, doesn't require moistening and performs as well as the conventional reeds.

The cost is 10 times that of a conventional reed. I will post an update with regards to longevity.

Overall, it's a great reed.

It's so nice to start playing right away without having to let your reed sit in water for about 5 minutes. Excellent practice reed! I'm just an amateur soprano sax hobbyist to I don't know different it sounds from a professional's standpoint. It's also very sturdy but you still need to be careful not to damage it. It's stronger than wooden reeds but not indestructible.

Desde mi humilde opinión, llevando ya 33 años tocando el saxo alto, tenor y soprano. Esta caña por la que no daba un duro, me a resultado estupenda para tocar algo de jazz y blues, para lo que no la voy a utilizar es para música clásica ni para mis estudios. La caña ofrece mucha sonoridad, es tanto así que cambia el timbre del saxo soprano completamente, muy buena incluso si quieres tocar con alguna fanfarria o algún grupo de calle. Es un tipo de caña como e dicho antes muy sonora y brillante y no tan fácil de manejar si no te acostumbras tocando por lo menos media hora. a mi me ha llegado una de 2 3/4, porque con este tipo de cañas suele pasar que cuanto más grande el número peor es tocar con ellas ya que no son como las convencionales, Si esta es del número 2 1/4 (yo que toco con cañas del 3 1/2 convencionales) pues esta estaría en la línea de una 3 y poco de bambú.Le doy 4 estrellas pero el paquete llegó chafado, menos mal que la caña llegó bien. Y le doy el 4 porque le falta un puntillo para ser estupendas. Lo bueno es que están listas para tocar y no se ablandan.
