wolf is a band that i recently discovered. the first album i heard was 'ravenous' and i was blown away by how good they are. id never heard of them before and was surprised to learn that they have six albums! i next aquired 'evil star' and was blown away again. this band plays some of the best heavy metal ever. if you like judas priest you will love wolf.next was 'legions of bastards' (great title) and again i was not dissapointed.this band gets better with every release and i would give all six albums five stars, ther that good.so pick up a wolf cd and prepare to have your ass kicked!

Swedish traditional metal standard-bearers Wolf are back with another studio album. Legions of Bastards is the band's sixth release, and it's just as fierce as the previous five Wolf albums. Wolf was one of the first bands in the so-called New Wave of Traditional Metal movement, and with every new album they remind us why they're also one of the best.

If you've heard any of Wolf's previous albums, you pretty much know what to expect from Legions of Bastards. It's the kind of heavy, melodic traditional metal that worships at the feet of bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, with wicked riffing, headbanging rhythms, snarling vocals and dark lyrical themes. You know, essentially everything that made metal so awesome in the `80s, but with modern energy and production, and that Swedish melodic approach. Highlights include "Skull Crusher," "Jeckyll and Hyde" and "Tales From the Crypt," but the whole album rocks hard.

It's not quite as amazing as Evil Star and Black Flame, but Legions of Bastards is still a killer traditional metal album, and one that will not disappoint true Wolf fans. Also, be sure to check out Twisted Tower Dire's Make It Dark and Widow's Life's Blood, both of which have a similar sound. It's awesome to see traditional metal taking off again.

Edition Notes: Legions of Bastards was not released (physically) in the US, most likely due to the poor sales of Ravenous.

This band has talented musicians who know how to play, but the singer tries to hard to mix in every 80's metal song into his lyrics making many songs hard to even listen to when you grasp the immature lyrics. I still listen to it as the CD has some awesome tunes on it and beyond the dumb lyrics they are solid songs.
