Problem: Bought the game for my 5 year old son. He played it for 5 minutes and gave up. There happens to be a 10 year old older brother, however who thought the game was cool and started playing it, showing his little brother how to play. Four days later the 5 year old is playing too. Planting farms, fighting off invaders, reinforcing the castle, showing ME how to play, and I'm thinking, it's Stronghold with LEGOs!
Both kids now love this game and they don't even realize they are learning resource management and strategy ... after all, video games are an escape from learning, right? (wink, wink)
Will all kids like this game? No. Many will not even grasp the concepts. But for those who think outside the box, or who are "gifted" this is a gem of a game. It might take younger players a little bit of time to get the hang of it, but once they do, it will be worth it. Today, LEGO Battles. Tomorrow, Total War!
He enjoys the game, and it has kept his attention even though he has been playing it for several months now. I also bought Lego Lord of the Rings for my 10 yr. old, but while he enjoyed playing it, by the end of the first few weeks, he had completed all challenges and was ready to move on. For the money and the play-ability, I would chose this one over Lord of the Rings.
