Your Favorite Hero in Lego Form
LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures takes the fun and creative construction of LEGO and combines it with the wits, daring and non-stop action from the original cinematic adventures that enthralled audiences everywhere (Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade). With a unique tongue-in-cheek take on the original adventures, LEGO Indiana Jones follows Dr. Jones escapades through the jungles of South America to the mountaintops of India. Fans can build, battle and brawl their way through their favorite cinematic moments, from Indy’s entanglements with snakes to his dashing boulder run.
Of course, pop culture’s most iconic archaeologist will whip through all the classic moments with the help of a host of supporting characters including Marion Ravenwood and Short Round. Players can also mix and match the body parts of more than 60 playable characters to create new heroes just as they could in the best-selling LEGO Star Wars games.

You are playing through levels based on the classic trilogy. However, you are playing as Lego versions of the characters in a Lego world. As a result, the only penalty for dying is losing points. Yes, you need points, but you can finish a level with zero and still have completed the level. For someone like me, that's actually a bit refreshing.
You play each level at least twice. First time through, you are in Story Mode. There are animated scenes that help retell the story between the difference parts of the stage. During each stage, you must collect Lego studs and solve various puzzles to get from beginning to end while defeating enemies who want to kill you.
Once you've played in Story Mode, you can go back in Free Play. Here, you'll take around 8 characters with you, each with different abilities that help you figure out different puzzles. Each level has 10 treasure chests to collect as well as other goodies hidden throughout. And you need those other characters to do it.
This game uses the Nunchuck as well as the remote. The controls are fairly easy to figure out and remember. I especially loved moving the remote to crack Indy's whip.
The game is rated Everyone 10+, and that's about right. A couple of the scenes are a bit disturbing, even with Legos, but they are in keeping with the franchise. Additionally, some of the levels are very hard. I found a guide on the internet I would use when I started to get too frustrated. I think you need to be at least 10 to figure out how to get around all the levels.
Each movie has six different levels of play, so that's 18 levels in all. You get a lot of play time for you buck.
Honestly, I could play this game for hours and not even realize how long I'd been sitting in front of my TV. It is completely addicting and fun.
I won't talk much about the good things, because lots of other reviews cover those, instead I'll concentrate on the problems.
1. You can only save at the end of a "mission". I understand that in the 1980s there were memory limitations, but in the new millennium, there is no reason not to be allowed to save anywhere in the game. Especially since some of the missions are long, fatigue would set in for my child and sometimes we were running into her bed time.
2. There is no camera control. You have to take what the game gives you and sometimes it is tricky lining things up.
3. Parts are too hard. I know this sounds hard to believe about a game with unlimited lives, but you do get docked points every time you die (at least until later when you gain enough money and complete enough unlocks to buy "extras"). It's frustrating to build up a bunch of points and then see them all drained away because you come to a section where the enemy is throwing grenades every five seconds. Some of the jumps are difficult too, especially with the lack of camera control.
4. They don't really take much advantage of the Wii-motes. You do get to use the remote for whipping, which is good, and you can use it for digging, which is kind of lame, but for a game that involves so much hand to hand fighting, I'm really surprised they did not include the remote for fist fighting, it seems like a natural.
5. The battles are repetitive and do not call for much strategy. This is really more of a puzzle game. I had fun playing this with my daughter, but I think I would have gotten bored quickly playing it on my own.
6. There are some glitches that can prevent you from moving forward. Again, since you cannot save in the middle of a mission, that means replaying the whole mission over again.
Still, in the end, after a bit of a rough start, my daughter and I had a fun time playing this together. This was especially true once we were in free play and had bought the "extras" (some might call them cheats). So I would still recommend it as a good co-op for playing with your child. Yes, it is violent, but in that Lego parts flying way. In fact, one other small problem is that I would now like to show my daughter the actual movies, and she would like to see them, but they are too violent for her age.
