Wonderful game even for adults!

I'm 24 years old and bought this game for PS4 mostly due to the fact that there are no other good games out on PS4 right now outside of Kllzone and a couple other titles. Being a Marvel/Avengers/X-Men movies fan, I looked into it and heard many good things about this game. The reviews and critics are right on this one, Marvel Super Heros is a fantastic video game!

This game is so good, it's almost like a full-fleged Avengers game and sometimes you forget it's a kids Lego game. WIth fun action sequences, a very exciting and fun storyline, and simple, non-frustrating controls and gameplay, I highly recommend you check out this game whether you are a fan of Lego or not. This game is an absolute must have for Marvel comic fans.

I'm an adult and I loved this game. Beat the whole storyline and am going back to replay parts of the game now. It's also got an open, sandbox world to it, which is very cool and surprising in a game like this. If you got a kid that's into Legos, this game is also a must have. I recommend anyone with a PS4 check out this game, I absolutely loved it. I'm sure it's great on the other consoles as well. Very fun, humorous, and simple game!

Bought game, recieved code instantly. Logged into PSN (on my computer, not the Playstation), added code. Went back to living room, game was already downloading. Not sure how people are having trouble with this, but I had no problems (purchased on Black Friday for 39.99 FYI).

Game:
Fricken sweet. Bought it for my 5 year old because I thought Knack was a bit lackluster and had no idea how fun the lego games were. I had to force the kiddo to stop playing and go to bed it was so fun the first day. I ended up staying up and played it with the wife for like 4 more hours. Addictive little game. Lots of content to be had, and lots of pleasure in just destroying stuff with the Hulk, flying around as Iron-Man, or swinging around with "The icky black spider-man venom guy" as my daughter puts it (Venom is her favorite. Fricken awesome lol).

Pros:
*Graphics are pretty good. Runs real smooth even with tons of destruction going on.
*Tons of playable characters.
*Hours of enjoyment. Humor is pretty good (slapstick style.)
*Story, cinematics, and even Deadpool are all clean. By this I mean no curse words, but does not take away from the quality of the writing, humor, and storyline (which is all over the place but thats ok.) I don't mind games having foul language, or even mild violence, but the line of G/PG/PG-13 is sometimes blurry when it comes to anime and video games. There is no worry for me to plop the kiddo in front of this game, walk out of the room, and come back and her repeating something that might be funny, but not funny to repeat to Grandma or her teachers.

Cons:
*Character progression is done via unlocking more characters with upgraded versions (skins with new/different powers.) Wish there was a leveling or RPG type progression to be found, but it might be asking too much for a game that already has so much to choose from (although some characters are just skins of each other, without any kind of signature move.)
*Dynamic split screen can be a pain in the but in some levels that require aiming.
*No way to change controls. Luckily most of the controls are found on the buttons of the face of the controller.

Lego City Reborn. Not just for kids

I grew up on games like Lego Island and Lego City, and while those games were terrible, they were still a part of my childhood. That said, I've had a rocky relationship with the Lego games made by Traveller's Tales, mostly because the improvements between each iteration are so minimal, it's as if they are pushing out the same game every year but with different scenery and characters.

I'm happy to say that Marvel Super Heroes changed this paradigm I held, with not only an amazingly huge (in Lego terms) open world, but also with a host of different mechanics, and improvements in the game engine. I'm quite happy to see that the developers have actually learned how to do dynamically do lighting and shadows (or they're really sneaky about hiding the fact it's not). In non-game development terms, this basically means that it looks pretty.

There's a huge slew of characters ranging from all ages of the Marvel universe, and I'm quite pleased at how well the writing integrates every single one of them. It's outstanding in this regard, and I'm still digging the fact that I can play as Giant Venom.

But if there's one thing I feel like I should make clear, this game is not just for kids. Like LEGOs, it can be enjoyed by pretty much anyone regardless of age. And I feel like that's something unique to the series. I honestly love the humor presented throughout the game, and the game mechanics aren't so mindnumbingly boring that it will keep everyone's interest.

However, there's one thing that causes the game to come crashing down and that's the two player co-op camera. Instead of deciding on an actual splitting point for the level, the game dynamically splits the screen into chunks based on player location. It sounds cool, but it really just makes you sick. Oftentimes, the split will start spinning which is incredibly frustrating because it makes world navigation difficult for various reasons. It's also not done uniformly, meaning each chunk will be of different sizes and can grow and shrink as needed. This can be infuriating, because as you are playing, all the sudden your view area is warped.

The developers claim this is a feature, but it's pretty clear that it needs more work.

That said, Lego Marvel Super Heroes is a fantastically fun game, it just becomes a bit nauseating when playing it in coop.

Seriously if you are a marvel fan and don't feel comfortable being an adult playing a Lego game. Go abduct a kid to play co-op with you. Totally worth the jail time. (Or just be the cool uncle, brother, father, or neighbor and just play it with a kid you already know.) On a side note it has a strange grand theft auto like quality that makes it super fun to just mess around. (even mor so when inebriated!)
