I use M lenses with this camera from Zeiss, Voigtlander and Leica. Nothing touches the organic IQ, the beautiful color, and build quality of the SL.
I have tested the SL2, and for me, the original is better for still photography (though video goes to Sony, Canon, etc)
Throw a Voigtlander 35 1.2 on this camera and be prepared for amazing beauty from your photos. Twist on a Leica 50 Summilux and see how it is meant to perform. The 50 APO on this camera brings medium format quality.
Even today in 2020 this camera is one that I would recommend if you value build, simplicity, quality and pride of ownership. At the price it goes for today, yes you can buy something more modern but modern doesn't mean better. I could own any camera I want, any. I still choose the original SL for my photos and memories.
Lacking some modern features; IBIS.
Without image stabilization you rely on bright daylight.
Also lenses are limited.
You better get something else and use post production to make them look like signature L. Look
I would prefer it to be a little lighter, especially given the heft and size of the Leica Elmarit 24-90 which I rarely take off. That is one exceptional lens at any aperture and any focal range (I've compared it to my Summilux's and Summicrons - on my Blog) so its worth the heft and hassle... Flash functionality is somewhat limited and difficult to use (especially given Leica flash costs).
In short, this is one fantastic camera. It may be expensive compared to its competition but you arguably get what you pay for. Long live Leica!
