Very nice out of the box, sturdy, easy to assemble

I am very happy with this purchase. I spent a couple of hours examining other similar items here on Amazon -- reading comments, comparing prices, etc. There is a similar one, sold by several vendors, that have the 3-section look, whereas this one has two sections. It's the same length, just designed a bit differently. I was never comfortable buying the other model because several comments indicated how they were disappointed when they took it out of the box (i.e. wood shavings, poor craftsmanship, etc.). Now, I cannot vouch for the other model, but this one came clean out of the box and is beautifully constructed. I put it together in less than five minutes. No wobbles, no patch-work with the wood, and it's very sturdy. I am very happy with the purchase. Looks great in my entry hallway! I will update this comment in the future (if needed).

I always feel a little guilty buying a knock-off, but apparently George Nelson sometimes took credit for the designs of others at his studio, so maybe that assuages a bit of the guilt. This is a classic American modernist design, and this iteration of it is sturdy, and nicely crafted, especially at 20% of the price of an official Nelson bench. If you want a piece as an heirloom, buy the Herman Miller bench (it has the inlay at the corners and the middle, and is certainly a seriously fine piece of furniture.) If you want a bench to put plants on, like I did, go with this ersatz model.

After reading some reviews, I was hesitant to order this bench! I have a real Nelson bench in my living room and love the style. I ordered this black one for the bedroom. I am very pleased with the quality and the price. The proportions are smaller than the original but it seems very sturdy. Its easy to put together. There were a few minor scrapes along one corner, easily fixed with a black furniture pen!

Decent bench. If you are expecting top of the line craftsmanship get a real Nelson bench. This one is a good value for the money, but the joinery is not top notch, some of the wood is a little rough, and there are finger joints galore (there isn't a piece of wood larger than 5" in the whole thing!). But, again, it looks great form a few feet away and it's inexpensive, so if you like the look but don't want to spend too much this is the way to go. Assembly is a cinch and it seems solid. I am happy with the purchase.

Having gone through several George Nelson replicas, I decided to try this one out due to the ratings - and I'm really glad that I did.

The finish on this one is superb - one of the best I've seen. In fact, it looks on par to the finish on my real George Nelson bench.

My only gripe about it is that it seems unbalanced if you sit on the edges. It's part of the issue with the 5ft design, but I wish something could have been adjusted to make the weight distribution a little better.

I really like my 5ft George Nelson Platform Bench. It has proven to be everything it was professed to be from its design to its durability. In fact, I use it in my office as a low table for my printers. The height and space under the bench proved to be an asset for my office. After having redesigned my office, the bench is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and compliment's the walls, windows and furniture it is a part of.

I really like this bench - it looks beautiful. It did come with a few nicks in the wood that were easily sanded down. It also is unevenly weighted so that if you sit too far toward one end it flips up. Still, I love the way it looks and the price was great.
