This is easy to install and program for the vehicle if equipped with the OBDII data link port. This appears to work for diesel engines as I seen that for an option when programming. This does take into consideration of the engine size. It will report mileage in both kilo-meters and miles. It incorporates the use of both gallon and litre data. The overall mileage can be displayed as MPG, GPM, GP$, and $PM. I wish that it showed a "real time display" of current mileage so I can easily see the difference running empty or with the current loaded status. The only way I can see doing this is to reset the unit from scratch and make a run.

I bought this because I never seem to know the mileage I am getting in my pick-up. I have and edge that tells me current mileage in real time but I can not find a feature in it to keep track of average mileage. With gas prices crazy high I can not often afford to fully fill up the fuel tank and this tool works great to help me determine my mileage. I do like the leaf feature to show myself how hard I am working the vehicle. I first installed this on my Saturn and it was easy to get all 5 leaves but since I use my pick-up primarily as a work vehicle hauling loads, towing a trailer, or in city traffic. (I live in a town with a stop sign nearly every block) I have only been able to get 4 leaves up.

Overall I like this to see my mileage and as a reminder to keep my foot out of the gas supplying the large appetite of my 5.4l triton.

One other note and this is an issue that caused me to drop a star off. I purchased the splitter cable to install this in an effort to use the edge programmer as well. For some reason this will not work if my edge is plugged in. So I must choose one of the two.

I tried this vehicle monitor in my 2000 Nissan Frontier to see how the vehicle was performing since truck doesn't have all of the bells and whistles like the newer models. This monitor really does work. It told me that I was still getting 20 miles/gal. I had the monitor connected to the ODB in the truck for 3 months. I would fill of the gas tank, drive the truck and watch the readings. When the tank was, fill up again, reset the key fob and watch the readings. It worked great. I gave the monitor 3 stars because the monitor would run the battery down in the truck when the truck wasn't driven for a couple of days. At first, I thought I left the lights on in the truck but after checking to make sure everything was off I came to the conclusion that it was the monitor connected to the OBD that was the problem. Since disconnecting the monitor from the truck, I haven't had any problems with a dead truck bartery.

I really liked the idea of this product. It's cheaper than things like Kiwi or Scanguage, and doesn't require an installation, but after a week with it I couldn't trust its data and longed for a cable. It was a breeze to install and setup. The first problem is that I kept on looking at it waiting to update my mileage and it rarely ever would. I could drive a whole trip and the mileage wouldn't register at all. The manual says it updates every 30 seconds - unfortunately that doesn't happen in reality. I thought it was losing connection as some have suggested. I kept on trying to re-sync the device to no avail. The fob has no indication that it actually has a connection to the OBD port unit. I kept on ending trips with missing miles.

I called the company and I found out that the OBD port monitor is the whole brains of the operation and you don't even need the fob in the car. When it can update the keyfob, the current data will be received with all the updated mileage and efficiency data. There's no need to re-sync; you can even remove the OBD port unit and reinstall it without having to resync. I also found out it works on the same frequency as other keychain remotes, so Bluetooth and car radios won't interfere, and it should have a range similar to your key's remote so it shouldn't matter even if it's in the backseat. They finally gave me an important tip that I can't believe they didn't put in the manual. If you want to force an update just press the middle button (labeled reset and which will reset the unit if you hold it). Actually I found a single press didn't work but I randomly found that pressing it 5 times did work very reliably. Within a few seconds of quickly pressing the middle button it almost always updated. With that knowledge I tried using it again.
