Top Customer Reviews
The Lenmar brand name has been around a number of years associated with camera batteries & accessories. The battery is rated basically the same of the OEM NB-4L, 780mAh. The battery came in a standard hard plastic retail shell container, see-through plastic, with a "2 year warranty." I am suspicious of $6 versions because I can't believe they would be using high quality cells at that price -- the lesson for Mattel Barbie toys was that they keep squeezing the China producers on cost, and they began substituting cheaper parts, like lead paint instead of unleaded paint which caused Mattel to recall dolls and blame it on manufacturers when it was Mattel which was pounding suppliers for lower production cost (allowing Mattel to receive higher profits).
I am happy that I bought it. I would gladly buy another one if I needed one.
About 2.5 years ago, I bought a Lenmar DLC4L battery for my Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS
camera. I had two concerns that made me hesitate before buying it. Its price was so
low compared to the Canon NB-4L battery (less than 25% of the NB-4L's price) that it
seemed too good to be true - perhaps I would be wasting my money on junk. My second
concern was a handful of negative reviews on the Amazon site, which heightened my
misgivings about possibly wasting my money on junk. Nevertheless, there were also
numerous positive reviews, and the price was attractively low, and I figured that I
could return the Lenmar DLC4L for a refund if it turned out to be defective. I went
ahead and bought the Lenmar DLC4L, and I have not had any problems with it. I use it
regularly, along with a couple of Canon NB-4L batteries that I also have. As far as
I can tell, the DLC4L is equivalent to the NB-4L, but it costs much less.
I did not do a detailed technical comparison, though. I don't know if one charging
of the DLC4L yields as many photos as one charging of the NB-4L, nor do I know if the
flash recharges faster or slower with the DLC4L. I don't know if the DLC4L has a
shorter lifetime than the NB-4L, but it continues to work well after ~2.5 years and
numerous discharge/recharge cycles, so I'm happy with it. Other reviewers have done
some technical comparisons, and can provide quantitative information on how well the
DLC4L measures up to the NB-4L.
I'm still amazed that the DLC4L price is so much less than the NB-4L price, and I
wonder how Lenmar does this. Perhaps they have much lower manufacturing labor costs,
and they might use slightly inferior materials in the batteries (just a wild guess!).
They might also spend less money on quality control, so more defective batteries leave
the factory than is the case for Canon. As long as the number of defective batteries
is quite small, I would be willing to take my chances with a Lenmar battery, because
the price is so much less.
I bought this battery because it was cheaper than the Canon-branded replacement battery - it definitely does the job however it was clear that it did not hold the charge as well as the original battery and I noticed the battery life reducing.
This was bought as a second battery to use alongside the original battery when travelling. Now I find that I use the original battery all the time and save this one for emergencies only until I can get the original battery charged again.
I have no complaints about the battery due to the cost saving vs the Canon battery, however, I wouldn't use this as a "replacement", it's more of an emergency backup.
