I was about to pull the trigger on purchasing a much older and refurished Lenovo Thinkpad when I thankfully stumbled upon this new model.

First, how to make it much better:

Fix the unaccepable wifi problem that is being reported by many owners (more on this below). This is the reason I only rated @ 4 stars. With this fixed, it's a solid 4.5 out of 5 for the money and an amazing value.
There is a huge Windows update that seemed to make a copy of the Windows directory as part of the process. You can remove this later using the Windows disk cleanup feature (Google it, it's not that difficult). This freed up about 18.5 GB of storage, which is a big deal considering that this SSD is a bit small at 120 GB.
Install all of your essential (and some of the best ) free apps from ninite.com. This will save you a TON of time while also ensuring that your apps are installed without any bloat or malicious code.
Remove the pre-installed antivirus software. In this case it is McAfee, but you should choose a better solution from ninite.com.
Run Windows Updates until is is done updating. Reboot as instructed.

All in all, I would say that this is an outstanding value for the money and you could do worse than buying as many as you can.

The good:

The laptop looks and feels more premium than I would have expected for a laptop in this price range.
The battery should last up to 9 hours when used for light tasks like writing papers, etc.
Surprisingly decent screen with a bright and crisp display
Decent performing SSD drive with ample storage (120GB).
Decent amount of RAM (4GB) with the option to install up to 8GB easily by yourself and for about $40.
Speaking of upgrading parts, the bottom panel can be easily removed by removing 6 screws.
The keyboard is very nice and very easy to get used to. It only feels better the more you use it. It's loud, but I'm used to that since I use a mechanical keyboard for my main computer.
The trackpad is very decent and miles better than the one on my older Lenovo Y500 gaming laptop.
The AMD CPU is noticably slower than a high-end CPU like an Intel i5 or i7, but the bottom line is that it gets the job done for most tasks including streaming video from Netflix, MS office, cat videos on you tube, etc.
Even the power supply is tiny and very portable. It also fits in snugly when plugged in to the laptop.
Includes Windows 10 Professional!

The not so good:

The wifi issue. OMG. Did Lenovo even try playing a short video on youtube with this model? Because if they did, they would have noticed that the wifi connection will drop all of the damn time for no good reason other than bad code. Totally unacceptable, IMO. I was 'this' close to returning this if I couldn't sort out the issue. Thankfully I did, and it's very simple and fast to fix (scroll to the end for this).

The slower AMD CPU may be an issue for some that need to run a lot of CPU or disk intensive tasks at the same time. However, for this price range, I have absolutely zero complaints about the performance.

The keyboard is not backlit, which I really can't complain about for the price. However, after being used to having this feature with my other laptops (that are also much more expensive), it's hard to live without it. I would gladly pay an extra $25 or $50 dollars if they could add this feature.

There is the usual amount of bloat to go through to remove and this is a somewhat of a buzz kill. When with the OEM's learn? Microsoft is the only game in town that has figured this out with their Surface line.

Minor complaint, but the placement of the Fn key on the lower left hand side of the keyboard is really annoying. I'm used to the CRTL key being there and instead it's just to the right. Why, Lenovo, why? I copy and paste a ton in my profession so this will take some getting used to if I need to use this for work.

Final thoughts:

If Lenovo added a backlit keyboard and a slightly faster CPU (even if they had to raise the price a bit), they would have a total hit on their hands. Even without, I am still in awe about the value that this laptop offers. I have no doubt that if I take care of this that I could be using this for years and years down the road. The size, keyboard, and battery are incredibly nice for a computer in the price range. Compare to any other laptop in the $349 or less range and you'll be hard pressed to find anything like this.

The wifi fix:

I'm assuming that you are using Windows 10 as provided by Lenovo here. Go to the Start Menu either by hitting the Start icon or by the Start key on the keyboard and then type in Device Manager. This should open the Device Manager and from there, expand the tree called Network Adapters. Click on the Broadcom 802.11ac Network Adapter and then right-click and choose 'Uninstall'. Once this is now gone from the view, right-click on the top of the Device Manager tree (it will have the name you gave it during setup), and choose 'Scan for hardware changes'. It should re-install and older version of the driver and you should soon see it back in the list of network adapters. Right-click on the properties again and then choose the Driver tab. If the date of the driver is from 2013 then you are now good to go. Again, Lenovo should be really embarrassed to let out such a huge flaw out the door like this.

Opening the box, it feels like a laptop from the 1990s - the screen is low resolution, the view angle is narrow, and there's a lot of plastic between the edge of the LCD and the edge of the screen (look closely at the images, the seller is trying to minimize that fact with careful camera angles, and the image on the screen, of earth, is black around the edges to hide the LCD demarcation point)

I bought 2x8 sticks of RAM, it only has 1 slot, so I upgraded to 8 GB. Buy 1 stick if you plan to upgrade. About 1 GB is used for the video card, so effectively this is running at 3 GB stock.

The wifi worked in stock windows but I'm installing linux right now and the wifi was not autodetected; the ethernet was. Haven't tried hacking around to get the wifi up.

Altogether, it's an interesting computer with modern hardware(ish) in a case and LCD straight from 1998. I personally kind of like a retro feel, but nobody is going to think you have an awesome computer if you lug this thing around. It's ugly. It's not a machine that you bond with like an Apple, it's a machine maybe you don't like a little, but you've figured a way to get along with it to get the job done.

So far a great laptop...HOWEVER this was ******NOT****** an AMD processor. It's a N2940 1.8 Quad core Intel Celeron. which I like much more but I am angry it was not the description said it was.

I have never found it so hard to uninstall McAfee. I ended up having to do a system restore in frustration last night. The ReachIT and ShareIT software is annoying. I really dislike bloatware, wish I didn't have to spend this time uninstalling it all.

This laptop's look and feel is pretty cool, I think it will survive a few drops (you'll know what I mean when you hold it for the first time). The keyboard is prefect for someone who likes to "feel the keys". The SSD makes for smooth navigating.

I love this laptop so far. I am unfamiliar with Windows 10 so that has been a learning curve. But the size and weight of this laptop cannot be beat! You turn it on and it just works!!! Battery life seems very good (right now, likely will decrease over time). I've had no issues whatsoever and this is now my go to device when I'm using my personal devices. Highly recommend!

this is marketed as a work computer, however, it is the perfect home laptop for me. ssd memory with nice specs means it is really fast, boots right up with enough memory for me. Well built, really cant beat this computer for the price IMO.

Great size and durability for field work, electrical tech left it out overnight in the rain, dried it out and still works flawlessly. Purchasing another!

The key component to a laptop nowadays is that it sufficiently connects to WiFi and remains connected. I wish I could say that this was the case with this product but unfortunately it falls short of those basic standards. I have never had connection issue's with other devices on my home network or in other secured environments that I use frequently however with the Lenovo Thinkpad there are unsolved implications one after the other. I have to troubleshoot the connection every 2 - 5 minutes and a new issue is reported every time. There seem's to be no sense to this problem as I have searched for reason's on why this is happening but failed to find an answer. Terrible product.
