I previously had a Lenovo Thinkpad W530 and the motherboard went out on it so I went shopping here and I found this Thinkpad Edge. My expectations for this Thinkpad edge was not high but I was very impressed when I received it. I love the icore 7 and the 8gb memory. The screen is good, not hd but very close to it. What a beautiful machine for the price! I love that you can add more memory and even an ssd drive to it. This machine is fast and very good. for the price it is a steal. Lenovo makes great machines. You will love it.

Facing a minor problem with screen

I purchased this laptop for one my cousins recently. Although he hasn't used it much, he seems to have liked the laptop; and has not observed any issue with the performance, speed, picture quality, etc. But, he is observing a weird issue - whenever he switches off/on the charger, while the laptop is on, the screen goes off momentarily and comes back again.

Incidentally, another cousin of mine has bought the same laptop recently. And he is also observing the same issue.

Has anyone else observed this issue? Has anyone managed to fix this problem? Any help/suggestion will be appreciated.

A good deal w/ the Amazon store card (12 month financing w/ no interest if paid in full within term, $35/mo). The touchpad/keyboard short circuited after a few months - from a coffee or water spill if I remember correctly - but I was able to send it back to Lenovo (in Georgia) and get it fixed for free, including shipping, even customer service dude on the phone was nice. It has been fine since then, despite getting food grease, weed crumbles, and kitten claws all over the keyboard - you know, normal wear and tear. Huge update from my previous 2 GB laptop :)

I've had this laptop for about 7-8 months and it runs my Solidworks and AutoCAD very smoothly. I bought the computer for my engineering programs. Right now the screen gets a little fuzzy sometimes. It isn't really noticeable but if you look long enough it shows. It could be due to wear and tear but we'll see in the future. The fingerprint reader is nice. It picks mine up swiftly. Movies also show nicely and the battery life isn't really bad. When I'm running any of my CAD programs it does drain it pretty quick. I'd like to say maybe 4 hours when I'm heavily using AutoCAD.

When you buy it make sure that you check the model number on the box. Make sure it's the Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E550 20DF0040US. I was sent the 20DF0030US which is a downgraded version. The seller did send the correct model. Run CPU-Z on it and that will tell you everything that is in the machine. This actually a very good deal and is sold on the Lenovo website for over $900.

I love this thing. Powerful, but elegant. This is the first time I had done my research on buying a laptop and it came down to this ThinkPad and another product. So happy I choose this one. It has given me nothing but hours of satisifaction and minimal to no problems.

I highly recommend this laptop to anyone doing moderate gaming, programming or anything audio/visual related.
The only issue I have with it is the screen - it's not too bright.

So if that's a problem for you - beware.

Love this laptop, Lenovo is a great computer brand, the E550 is excellent for the price range, perfect for IT guys or businesses work, some gaming potential here the R7 m260 (low to mid video card) gives you a decent gaming experience (tested Diablo 3 and Counter Strike on high res, decent performance), solid design, it is fast and goes smooth. Battery life: you need to charge it for 12 hours for an average of 6-8 hours of normal use (no gaming, mid brightness). Bought this laptop to do my work and for casual gaming. Excellent.
