I was given this computer through my work, so I was using it for some pretty heavy tasks. It performs those tasks well.

The problems with this machine though are not in power, but in design.

The touchpad on this thing is an unholy mess.

It is extremely sensitive to touch, such that when you're typing and part of your hand lightly brushes the pad, the computer reads this as a left click...you can imagine how much of a pain that is.

The clicking with it is also poor. Left click, right click, who knows when one ends and the other begins.

In fact, just typing this review now has caused my typing cursor jump to a different part of the review 5-6 times up until this point.

Long story short, it's got some power to it, but good lord the touchpad...just...no...just...no...

I recently bought this as a replacement for my six year old work laptop that desperately needed replacing. I'm super pleased so far.
Pros:
-Hardware: fast for the price
-Keyboard: as with most lenovo stuff more tactile than the usual keyboard. I don't get why some people called it cheap. No, it's not a MBP.
-Screen: It maxes out at a (somewhat) weird resolution of 1366x768 but the screen is a very nice matte finish. It's not washed out like you'll get on some mobile displays and it's pretty crisp.

Cons:
-Track Pad: Yeah it's my only gripe I guess. You do bump it frequently if you don't type correctly (hands elevated). And, it's not real intuitive. Someone mentioned no right click which is untrue. If your use the bottom right of the track pad it will register a right click.

Great computer for the price. Very pleased.

Product works well. Keys are large and have good feel. Sound is very good. Unit is thin and light...BUT there is no hard drive activity light -- useful when you think your computer is doing nothing or locked up, but the HD light says otherwise.

This is a powerful system I added an extra 4 GB, though I doubt I'll push this that hard. As with all new computers I had to add Office which I got through work for 8 dollars (2010 professional) :). The drawback is it is cheaply constructed it has a lightweight flimsy plastic feel to it, which explains why it is so much less expensive than the other ThinkPads, But you get what you pay for and since my laptop just stays at home traveling between rooms, it will work fine. If you are going to carry it on trips or back an forth to school you should go to a store where you can see if it is sturdily built.

I needed a new Windows 7 laptop and this one has allot of bang for the buck. It easily compares to others costing over $1000. The
i7 processor is fast yet very easy on the battery. Its only drawback is 4 Gigs of ram, but this is easy to upgrade to 8 Gigs for about $40.

Perfect overall laptop for Computer Science majors. Affordable, especially for an i7, let alone at 2.2GHz, so having a bunch of programs open doesn't lag it out. If you aren't use to the other line of thinkpads and this is your first it is great. I read a lot of negative reviews before buying this laptop comparing it to other thinkpads, which as long as it had the legendary keyboard as this one has then I am fine with it not having the heavy rollcage. All the specs are correct as listed above. This laptop will even play games on it if you are one to game. Runs 80fps smoothly on League of Legends. This is a no brainer if your looking for an i7 and have a budget for well under $1,000. It comes with one stick of RAM at 4GB and an empty space for another stick, so affordable upgradeable to 8GB for around $40.

TOUCH PAD IS TOO LARGE PHYSICALLY causing unintended cursor travel when the hand's palm (fleshy metacarpal thumb joint) just brushes the pad. Right and Left click buttons are incorporated in the touch pad, have too great a distance to travel to affect a selection. Packaged memory at 4Gb is not enough to swiftly handle operations. I had to upgrade to 8Gb by adding 4Gb ($50) to the available open slot. Keyboard especially directional arrow keys are small not sculpted enough making them difficult to easily distinguish by feel . The leading edge of the keyboard needs to be more rounded down as when wrists are in a less than optimum typing position the sharp edge is very uncomfortable. I bought this computer online and didn't realize the screen was a non glare mat finish. I was expecting the Lenovo screen that has more contrast (smooth polished ) over a less image defining mat. I went for a discounted sales price, dual Windows OS's (Windows 7 Professional and Windows 8 Professional) and i7 Intel third generation processor. I'm sure I got what I paid for in that this model is no longer produced new by Lenovo.

If you install linux on it and have the broadcom wireless card disable powersave for wireless in the config file because it causes a kernal panic. Track pad can be annoying at times but after you get used to it, it is nice.
