Thinkpad Battery life seems good.
This Thinkpad arrived with the bottom screws partly unscrewed. The upside is that when I unscrewed it completely to have a look, it showed how easy it'll be to add RAM. Downside is that it doesn't seem to close super-tight. Dust and EMI can get in and out.
It came with persistent preinstalled McAfee anti-malware which took time to eradicate. I still have a dozen ocurrences of "McAfee" in my registry.
Biggest complaint: Click & drag is hit or miss. Most of the time while using the keyboard's left side non-trackpad click key and dragging with the trackpad, you lose the click+drag functionality. You need to reclick and drag.
This keyboard is slightly louder and clunkier sounding than the Ideapad's. The cheaper Ideapad keyboard has a softer "touch."
The shortcut keys for adjusting volume and brightness have disappeared or they changed them on the Thinkpad.
Besides the Thinkpad's lower keyboard quality the I/O connectors are a bit tight, especially the USB. I've never had such a hard time plugging into USB ports of a new computer. This may be an advantage though. Time will tell. The Ideapad's weak points also were its I/O ports-- the power, USB, and headphone eventually gave problems.
Thinkpad's LED status indicators:
The ethernet status LEDs may not always work -- they will sometimes both be lighted up and flashing when the network interface is disabled.
On the Ideapad the two ethernet LEDs are:
-Green connectivity LED in front of the RJ45 connector.
-Amber activity LED behind the RJ45 connector.
On the Thinkpad the green and amber LEDs' positions are reversed. The green one is now behind the RJ45, AND behind the cable when it's plugged in, so it's harder to see. What makes this even worse is, because the Thinkpad is thinner the LED apertures are recessed, lower profile, and have smaller areas.
I like to walk in a room and see right away if I left my PC connected to the web. Or if the screen has dimmed -- to know at a glance if I'm connected. The "activity" LED can mean anything but I don't think it should be flashing when I'm not connected.
The Thinkpad skimped on the number of light indicators: Haven't found any lights for Caps Lock. The power indicator is now a large red LED on the horizontal surface right of the touchpad. When the lid is closed there's a big red LED on the lid cover.
I Plan to return to re-review as I use this more.
