I used this to replace a modern keyboard that was lighted (this keyboard is not lighted). The problem I have with many modern keyboards is the difference in stroke depth and key surface width. I was making a lot of typing mistakes and couldn't figure out why until I studied the situation and realized that for decades I had become accustomed to the design metrics associated with traditional keyboards. I believed this was the predominant reason for the many typing errors I was experiencing. So I bought this keyboard to test my theory, and YES, my theory was correct. My typing errors are greatly reduced allowing me to type more accurately without having to look at the keyboard. I wish there was a lighted version of this keyboard, but I would rather use a keyboard with traditional key design metrics than a higher tech lighted keyboard that has non-standard key metrics. This isn't a mechanical keyboard and it doesn't claim to be, so I'm not comparing as such. I write for a living--some weeks I might pull 25,000 words depending on what's going on. After going through a number of cheap Logitech keyboards over the course of a couple years, I picked up a mechanical. Then, my mechanical was having some issues and I needed to replace it but it wasn't in the budget. I needed something cheap that would put up with regular use and figured I could toss in a bag if I was going somewhere and didn't want to use my laptop keyboard. I'm glad I picked this one. It sees far more use than I ever intended and it's held up like a champ. After a few months of regular use, the keys still have their lettering, they're all still responsive and more importantly, I've had zero problems with hand cramps or wrist pain. Unlike many basic budget keyboards, the key layout on this one is fairly untouched, while still making room for media controls. There's not a ton of hotkeys, but the ones there are actually useful. I enjoy the feel of the keys. They're not mushy like a membrane keyboard but aren't nearly as tactile as my favorite Cherry Blues. For the price, the typing experience is stellar. This isn't a quiet keyboard by any stretch, but it's also a far cry from the clackety-clack of a mechanical. I can still pick up keystrokes when recording with my headset mic, but it's a background noise and no intrusive on the audio side. One issue I could see if if you're not happy with the angle of the keyboard. It's not adjustable in any way, but fortunately for me, it's a great fit for my normal typing angle. The best rule to remember with keyboards is "try before you buy". =================================================================================== I've been digging around for a bargain keyboard, probably spent the equivalent of what it would cost for a really nice one. The thing is, though, that you don't always have $60 to toss down on a fancy "washable" or "super-ergo" keyboard. We use the Lenovo 8825 at work, and it's great. As a programmer, I need a keyboard that records all keystrokes accurately, a missed letter or unrecorded SHIFT can turn into an hour-long headache. Most $10 keyboards compromise your efficiency in some way. This one doesn't. It isn't feature rich, comes with only your standard keys. You don't get a "Media Playback" set of keys or any other luxuries. However, I can easily nail 80WPM, where with other keyboards at this price-point I struggle at about half that. Many get sticky keys with little action (spring), they feel cheap and slide around all over the desk. Weighing about as much as a can of soup, these things take a beating and sit still. The ones at work have been working for at least a year and a half with perhaps a %0.15 error rate. Number pads often get cheaped out on, but not here. Plenty of space for large hands, too. To be honest, if you are looking at a more expensieve keyboard than this one, you're paying only for luxury features like "quiet-keys" or wireless. This one has two settings, RAISED UP or FLAT DOWN. My fiance, when writing her book, needs a solid keyboard as well with high accuracy and plenty of action. So, unless you spill coffee on this thing or the seller ripped you off for a cheaper POS, this is what you want. If you can get a deal on it, the Lenovo 8825 easily competes with keyboards that are twice the price. A hardy, hardcore, heavy-use board that you won't regret. thinking it would be good enough. 3 months later

I use a computer 8-10 hours a day at work, and have had the same wired IBM keyboard since 2000. Recently it gave up the ghost, and I replaced it with another keyboard that was lying around at the office, thinking it would be good enough. 3 months later, I finally gave in, and starting searching for a *real* replacement. Enter this Lenovo keyboard. It's updated, in that it uses a usb connection instead of the old 9 pin round connector, but other than that, it's a basic, old school keyboard. Exactly what I wanted. I don't need 42 buttons across the top to control music and sound - I just want my arrow keys separate from my number pad, my backslash in the proper location, and a keyboard with solid keys that have some travel to them - none of this chiclet stuff.

I expect this keyboard will last me another 15 years by which point I'll be wearing my google implant and just *thinking* at my embedded pc chip embedded in the back of my neck...

Just a Good Old-Fashioned Keyboard!

I've been using this keyboard for 2 weeks. Feels like how a keyboard should feel; like how they were built 10 years ago. Nice depth on keys -- not spongy or shallow. Nice spacing between keys -- about 7mm. All keys -- including space bar, enter key, delete, insert, home, end, page up, page down --- are where they belong. (I purchased a new computer/keyboard recently, and the home, end, page up and down keys were in new places. And the insert key didn't even exist --- Whaaat?! Which is why I purchased this lovely Lenovo). Anyways, the enter keys on the keyboard I received are black (not blue like shown in the description picture). It has two fold-down feet on the back underside of the keyboard in order to angle the keyboard to make typing more comfortable. Length: 17 3/4", Width: 7 1/2". An attachable velvety-feeling slightly flexible plastic (not hard plastic) wrist rest is included. It's 17 3/4" long and 3 1/4" wide. This keyboard is a pleasure to type on, and my typing speed is back up to where it should be with zero errors; not like with the new-fangled keyboards or laptops on which errors abound. So glad I purchased it. I love it!

I got this keyboard for my writing computer since I've already went through my third keyboard on this laptop. Oh my gosh! It is complete heaven! I've spent the last several years exclusively on laptop keyboards and I had completely forgotten just how nice it is to type on a quality full-size keyboard for a change.

The keys have a good feel, decent amount of travel, and a solid click to let you know when you've engaged the key. I can't tell properly, but it looks as if the letters are engraved onto the keys. You can feel a slight ridge when you touch the letters at least, which is something I know you don't have on those painted letter keyboards. As a result I am very hopeful that I won't wear the letters off of this one (a common occurrence with me). The keys are very responsive; While occasionally I find myself looking down at my laptop keyboard or pressing the wrong keys, my fingers naturally fall into the right spots and I hardly ever find myself looking down. As a result my typing speed has increased a bit.

I've not had it very long so I'm not sure how well it will hold up. If I have any problems I will update this review in the future.

This is a REAL keyboard intended for touch-typists and those who spend long hours actually typing. They have a nice long throw (that's why people who have only ever typed on laptops don't like them very much) and good tactile feedback. It's constructed of heavy plastic -- both the case and the keycaps -- giving you a very secure, robust platform for extended work.

The company that I work for has deployed these keyboards for years so I've seen a ton of them -- never seen a broken one, though. We do have a sprinkling of cheaper keyboards from other companies and finding them broken is not unusual.

At work, I provided myself out-of-pocket with a Unicomp Classic 101 White buckling-spring mechanical keyboard ($84) but, as nice as it is, it's far too noisy to subject my loved ones at home to. This Lenovo keyboard is an excellent compromise: It still feels great but it's much quieter (not silent, though, but it's relative).

All of the keys are placed where they are supposed to be. The pipe key is above the Return "Enter" key and not on the top row where it doesn't belong, for instance.

For the record, these keyboards are in use on Linux workstations at work and on a Mac at my house. Mac users should swap the "Alt" and Windows keys to get them to function properly as "Option" and "Command" keys. Use the Keyboard control panel and click on the "Modifier Keys..." button to make this change.

I would have purchased a white model if only it were available. I work in subdued lighting -- dark, sometimes -- and it's simply easier for me to locate specific keys on a white keyboard on the rare occasion that I need to. That's just a personal thing, though.
