I graduated with an English degree with a concentration in medieval literature which explains my possibly unhealthy fixation on edged weapons and cathedral architecture. I spent a summer in England and Scotland studying the historical King Arthur, which did nothing to curb my obsession. To satisfy my adrenaline cravings--since sword fighting is not widely accepted in these modern times--I rode a motorcycle at ridiculously high speeds, got some tattoos, and took kickboxing and boxing classes. I gave up the bike when my daughter came along, although I still get pummeled at the gym on a regular basis.

When I'm not writing or working, I spend time with family, hike, read, make decadent brownies, buy killer boots, and play Pocket Frogs. I wish there were more hours in the day so I could actually do more of these things.

I stumbled upon this book, and I am glad I did. It has a very interesting plot and characters that have depth, that pull you into their world. I loved the fact that the book was written from both Kess's and Cormac's PoV. This is not something done in many YA novels, but I really do love it when I find a book that does. It makes me more drawn to the characters as a whole rather than just the female lead. It is refreshing to see what both characters are thinking and doing. I find myself more in love with a couple when I can see how they both truly feel. It gets frustrating when you read YA after YA where the male is being a total jerk and you don't know why. So of course what I am trying to say is that both PoV's rocks! Now to dig into the story.

So we have Kess a strong independent female were who can take care of herself. She doesn't take crap from no one. I laughed so hard reading the lined between her and Finn. Man she nailed him good. All I was thinking was, You go girl! She has been on the run for a while trying to stay missing. Her brother Sek will stop at nothing to get her back home, unfortunately he is doing it for his own twisted reasons. Kess lives in fear that he will catch her and finish what he started.

Kess makes her way to North Carolina and gets a job at a local restaurant, not knowing that there are other were's in town. She meets Cormac at the restaurant while serving his table. He takes a shine to her and starts to pursue her. Cormac is such a sweetie. I fell in love with him from the moment he met Kess. He is such a gentleman, protecting her even when he knows he is going to get into trouble for it. Here is a guy who will stick by your side and be partner for life. I could not help but love him.

Just when Kess is starting to feel secure her brother and some of the pack show up to take her home. Kess is beside herself, what can she do? Run and leave Cormac, or stay and wait Sek out? She does want to leave but will she have a choice when the time comes. Can Cormac protect her from her brother like he longs to? Or will he die trying?

I was loved this book, it was just amazing. I love the relationship between Kess and Cormac, and Cormac and his family (though not as much with his dad, but hey he is just trying to protect his son) . It felt like coming home. This is one of those books that draws the reading in and invites them to stay awhile. I can't wait to read Jackal Moon, the second book to the series and Hyena Moon when it releases. Do yourself a favour and grab a copy, at 0.99 it is a steal!

Not that an impressive debut should be surprising, but a shifter on the run from her pack has been done time and time again, but surprisingly enough, I found myself falling into a rather believeable world this author creates with a slow building, albeit chaste, romance with wonderfully mature characters, even though they're teenagers, and a tragic villain who you can't help but feel something for.

17 Year old were-leopard, Kess, has been on the run for over a year. Her father, the clan leader, has been distant since her mother's death and her brother Sek has been running the family business and affairs for a while. Sek practically raised Kess from a little girl to a beautiful young woman, but somewhere along the way, his instincts bent toward the unnatural and he has a very unhealthy obsession towards his sister. After escaping the latest bout of investigators tracking her from Miami to New Mexico to California, she finds herself in North Carolina to try and start again, where she meets a young man Cormack who's willing to do anything to be with Kess. Kess longs to have a normal life with a normal relationship, but she's never spent more than 6 months in a single place and knows she can't get too attached since she'll never know when she needs to up and disappear.

I have to say I was very engaged with this story. It moves at a believable pace and has wonderful supporting characters. The situation is tragic and although the perfect bad guy is created, it's because he is sick and not necessarily evil, but I guess that will remain to be seen. Compared to Rachel Vincent and Kelly Armstrong, I'll take this story over their's any day. The fact that it was .99 makes it that much better. I generally don't care for young adult stories, and if I were honest, I wish this was a bit more spicey in the romance department, but I'm looking forward to reading the next installment and seeing where this goes.

I read this mostly in one sitting and it was a nice departure on the YA books. The H/H were really mature for their age, and they did not have the whole "angsty" thing going on. It was pretty refreshing. Kess and Cormack were both straight forward with each other.

This book is set up to have a sequel and I will probably read that. I enjoyed this book, I did not LOVE IT. I will be interested in future writings from this author, but if I don't revisit these characters I can live with that.

For me to give 5 stars I have to immediately go out and purchase another of the authors books, and want to re read the book. Four stars, I want to continue with the characters. I gave this 3 because I am not sure that I will continue to follow them. I will if I need a book to read, but they are not a MUST BUY.

With that said, this is still a good book. It is not racy, so it is good for all age groups. It does briefly talk about an uncomfortable situation in Kess' past, but it is not graphic and tastefully handled. I liked the other characters in the book, and can see there could be a series with them; however, I did not see a particular standout.

It is an enjoyable fill read between your must reads. For the price I would definitely purchase it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leopard Moon

This book was a break away from my normal reads, usually I shy away from paranormal romance novels, I think they're over done and as such, rather dull. This novel was a pleasant surprise for me and here's why.

The first thing that grabbed my attention was the likability of the characters, the heroine, although rather young for my tastes, had her head screwed on straight. She was the most level headed seventeen year old I have encountered in a book (although not real life). She's running from a psychotic family member and seems to be doing very well at it. She also happens to be a Were-Leopard to add a bit of spice in the mix. The support cast are as likable as she is, despite having tough streaks to them. The characters, heroes and villains alike are well written and from the start of the novel grab you, leaving you wanting to know more about them.

The novel is very well written and is easy to read at the same time, the plot is somewhat simpler than my normal read and I believe this is partly why I enjoyed it. It's nice to keep things simple sometimes, something that a lot of fantasy fiction authors forget. In this novel there is no chance of forgetting who's who or who is doing what or even who is on who's side, it made a refreshing change.

I liked this novel so much I am struggling to find a bad point to make - aside from the odd spelling error here and there and a couple of words omitted in error, I'm hard pressed to find one. As I mentioned earlier, the age of the heroine and hero are a bit young but that is just a matter of taste and not a flaw in the novel itself.

If you fancy an easy read then this really is a novel you'll enjoy. I'd recommend it for these reasons, it's effective in it's simplicity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected

I wasn't too sure what to expect from this book, as the plot sounded a little wishy washy at first. The first few pages were interesting enough to keep me reading, but not enough to drag me in so far that I spent most of my time stuck with my kindle. BUT, once I'd got over my initial reluctance, I found Kess to be a rather charming protagonist and enjoyed her back story immensely. Sek was suitably creepy and the main topic of the story involving Sek was just gross enough to make you dislike him as a character and root for Cormac, who by the way is a lovely character. I particularly loved Kess' were-leopard to Cormac's wolf. The way they found out about each other was particularly nice, and I enjoyed how it just made Cormac want Kess more. The storyline was good enough that it kept me going throughout and I found myself reading faster towards the end. Overall, the characters were pleasant and filled out enough that I understood them, the plot was interesting enough that it kept me reading and I'm quite interested to read the next book now!

3.0 out of 5 stars quite good

for a young adult book, I quite enjoyed this!

Kess is a were leopard. she has run away from home for reasons i'll not elaborate but all is made clear in the book. she end up in a town, far away, with a pack of werewolves nearby. Cormac is a wolf. the pair get together, sort of, with Kess fighting it all the way. (there is no mating/bonding thingy going on)

when Kess's past literally comes to get her, she finds out her true sense of worth, and the lengths Mac will go to keep her.

the book is beautifully written, with hints dropped here and there as to Kess's age and why she has left Florida. there is no sex, but some violence, although when you have two alphas fighting, there will be blood,

there are others in this series, which follow on, but I don't know if i'll get them. if they come up free, I will.
