The walnut is a beautiful color, and fits in quite well with my teak furniture. It does indeed hold a lot of DVD's. It is a solid piece of furniture, with 24 solid wooden drawers. I was a little disappointed that the drawers were not dove-tailed, but stapled on the bottom.
the suggested use for this is cds and dvds, which the drawer dimensions are built for, however, i use mine for home basics like candles, matches, lighters, keys, rope, power cords, batteries etc- basically making it a stylish 'junk drawer' plainly labeled for easy use. even then, i couldn't fill it up all the way and had drawers left over for art supplies, and the drawers are deep enough for every pencil, pen and paintbrush i have.
my one or two complaints is the back is unfinished, so it can only ever be put against a wall, never used as a room divider (boo!) and the side walls of the drawers are lowered which makes it easy to extract your horizontal cds and dvds, but eats into the ability to store other loose items. that said, i still never had the need to fill a drawer above that line, but i might have.
also the stance of the bottom makes the unit seem wobbly and unstable, but mostly i have live in older homes with uneven floors- though soft carpet may also make it rock a little. small wooden feet could have solved that- and eventually, i did attach small vintage wooden casters to the base.
a great product! and if i could find another here on amazon, i'd buy one.
This cabinet is NOT an RTA product-- it is solid wood and fully assembled. This is not the highest quality furniture, but it is not priced to be. The wood is light and the back of the cabinet is made of thin unfinished plywood, but the construction is solid and the finishing is nice. For a comparable item from a high quality furniture manufacturer, you'd pay around $1000, not $300.
This apothecary style cabinet could meet a multitude of storage needs and would look great in many settings. I highly recommend it.
The itty bitty screws holding the drawer pulls in aren't sufficient to hold them even if the drawer doesn't stick, and if it does, you'll pull out the handle, not the drawer. Half the pulls are gone, most of the drawers stick, and I haven't even gotten to the point of actually loading my stuff into it.
Based on other reviewers experience, I'm not going to bother trying to return it. Off to the trash it goes, there's $300 I'll never get back.
The part that really hurts is that I'M the fool ... the other reviewers tried to tell me but I didn't listen.
