DJ Kool can rock a party at the drop of a hat without a doubt. The sample laden beats on this album will definitely get you out of your seat, and the call and response magic orchestrated by Kool himself is nothing short of exhilarating. He makes liberal use of some famous hip hop lyric quotes, and they certify this project's authenticity. Biz Markie and Doug E. Fresh show up to help turn the party out, and they shine extraordinarily. Kool is a master at kicking off the festivities; however, as a rapper, he is not quite advanced technically, spitting party rhymes with monosyllabic structure. On the other hand, off of his pure, raw energy and unbreakable flow, Kool is by all accounts, a real nice emcee (and DJ).

I dont think DJ Kool ever meant to be a critically acclaimed, serious rapper. He is from the school, like Biz and Dougie, where spinning records, getting the crowd pumped up and everyone dancing was the entire idea. Every rapper doesnt have to be Chuck D. People like to party and dance and thats what this was intended to be and it hits the mark, especially " Let Me Clear My Throat" ...if you dont want to dance to that you might need to check your pulse.

With this release, DJ Kool brings live performances from different parties and clubs and tries to make the listener feel like part of the audience. This album is supposed to make you feel good and let loose, it's not a serious rap or traditional DJ album. DJ Kool is a decent DJ and even a decent enough rapper (even though he can get repetitive at times or just not flow right) but what makes him relevant and stand-out is his enthusiasm and how dynamic he really is as a performer. A couple tracks are repetitive on here but there's always energy from Kool and he gets the crowd to be part of the actual performance extremely well. The title track is the crowning achievement here and there are a couple performances I wouldn't mind listening to multiple times. What people need to realize is that this is an album to put on at a party or when you're chilling with your friends (maybe even if you're working out). It's meant to pump you up and get you going.

So if you're looking for an album to pump for a party or to get you energized for a workout or something, this is the perfect album to do it. It serves it's purpose well. Plus, "Let Me Clear My Throat" the song is entertaining in it's own right.

For people looking for an actual rap or traditional DJ album that's well thought out, you will most likely be disappointed. Hope that helped.

I like that Washington, D.C. go-go beat on Twenty Minute Workout and when he says "My name ain't Sam & I don't eat no ham, horns blow here we go" and then the horns start....This was definitely a jam back in the day.

This is pure fun, the track "let me clear my throat" is a standard among the party crowd. Old school for sure, so what's wrong with that?
