If it's Tom Petty it's gonna be good.
Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2015
Whenever somebody mentions what they feel is the worst Tom Petty album both with and without The Heartbreakers, generally either 1987's "Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)" or 2002's "The Last DJ" are picked. While I do agree that "The Last DJ" is his weakest release, I strongly disagree with the assessment that "Let Me Up (I've Had Enough)" is a bad album. In fact I feel it's the most underrated release of Tom's catalog to date. (I will abbreviate the title as LMUIHE from here on out by the way.)
Following on the heels of 1985's ambitious and at times schizophrenic but quite good "Southern Accents" which would see Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers stepping way out of their comfort zones on many tracks, they would get back to more of their traditional sound on LMUIHE. The album was very spontaneous and saw the band recording mostly live as a group in the studio with lead guitarist Mike Campbell taking on much more of a co-writing role on the album as well. Whereas many people say the band sounded tired and uninspired on this outing, they actually sound loose and like they're having a blast on this release in my opinion. Great variety and I honestly think that this is a stronger release than 1982's "Long After Dark". Even though this album fell on deaf ears and poor sales in 1987, I do feel that time has been kind to it and people should give it another chance. It's quite an excellent release in my eyes.

As usual, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers kill it!!

I really liked this record. It might not have been as commercially successful as some of their other albums, but it contains the hard-rocking at which the Heartbreakers are so good. And, no pun intended, it has a lot of heart. I like their obscure tracks . . . a little harder to find, maybe, but very satisfying when you do!

First purchased in the mid-80's on cassette and again later on CD, this new pressing (2017) on 180-gram vinyl by Quality Record Pressing is another typically flawless re-issue. In 1986, as CD started to gain traction, it frequently (almost always, in fact) sounded somewhat harsh and brittle in comparison to the vinyl I grew up listening to. Although CD has come a long way (and, of course, is now a "dying" format) no digital version I've heard, including the 24/96 hi-rez, can touch this pressing. And although I do not possess an original copy to compare this re-issue to, it's hard to imagine the old Geffen pressing could match this organic, natural, and warm-sounding remaster.. Of course, it still has that mid-80s "sound", but for those who have fond memories of this period in time musically for Petty & the Heartbreakers, this is the definitive version to own; perfectly flat & totally without flaws of any kind. Once again, QRP proves itself to be one of the most high-quality vinyl pressing plants in the world, equaled perhaps only by Pallas in Germany.

This isn't one of my favorite Tom Petty albums but it is fun. You won't find any of his big hits on it but it is nice to listen to some "off the wall" stuff. You get to see what else he can do. I gave it 5 stars because I am a huge TP fan. I do think some of his other albums are better. The Last DJ, Echo for example are fabulous. And of course his anthology work is a must.

I had this album on cassette but just now got It on CD and it did meet my expectations. If your a big Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers this one is a must for your collection, otherwise I'd recommend Hard Promises, Damn the Torpedoes, or the Greatest Hits CDs. The follow up studio album to the long awaited Southern Accents, this album fulfills the hard rockin reputation of the TP and the Heartbreakers and represents the final Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album of the eighties. Petty wrote a lot of the lyrics based on newspaper headlines he had read and if listen closely you can catch a lot of the late eighties headlines. Although there is very little commercially known tracks other than Jammin Me, this album produces some pretty good listening over all. In other word, you can pop the CD in and let play in its entirety.

After SOUTHERN ACCENTS was an artistic disappointment, Tom Petty apparently told his old production team that if he saw them using inappropriate social manners, they would be fired, and it was obviously the right move, because even though LET ME UP (I'VE HAD ENOUGH) starts disappointingly with "Jammin' Me", the album quickly gets better on the second track, "Runaway Trains." There's other great stuff here too, such as "The Damage You've Done", in which Petty tells his lover to atone for the way she's treated him by not eating with her elbows on the table or putting her feet on furniture in his house. Petty's belief that the young Australian tourist jailed in Indonesia since 2005 for drug-smuggling was falsely convicted makes LET ME UP (I'VE HAD ENOUGH), which is one of Petty's most underrated CDs, an essential purchase for both your ears AND your conscience.

ブリティッシュを意識してか、ストーンズやフーを意識したリフが出て来て楽しめました。
売れ線を意識せず、のびのびと作った感じで、トムの本質に触れた気がして嬉しかったです。
