In this book we find the Pups & Family in Africa. Although it may sound like the premise for another Bob Hope / Bing Crosby "Road to ..." movie, I was impressed by how well that environment worked with the story. As with the first two books, the excellent attention to detail almost makes the environment a character in its own right.
The superb character definition, style and dialogue from the first two books are still here, and the trilogy wraps itself up nicely. The stakes are higher, and the Hogan family bonds are pushed to their limit. Another very satisfying book, if not a little bittersweet knowing that there aren’t any more books in the series to read.
The wonderful insights into the dogs minds is remarkable and unexpected but totally believable. The trials these people (and I include the pups) are well thought out and move seamlessly from one catastrophe to another . at the conclusion of the story I feel fulfilled and completed. A lot of authors tend to leave me hanging, looking for a more satisfactory ending wishing they had tied up some loose ends. This is certainly not the case here, thank Mr Udulutch for this wonderful wild run.
There have to be more of these tho as I feel like I've been left hanging out over empty air here.
But these if you like dogs, a bit of science and can withstand a bit of starting language and a lot of family living banter. You won't be sorry.
Warning, there are some Scottish idioms that you will have to become accustomed to, but it's well worth the effort.
The second book really got my blood pumping.
But this third and final book in the saga is going to leave me with some serious withdrawal.
A thrilling ride from start to finish, with plenty of moments for disbelief and that lovely warm and fuzzy feeling.
Thanks for the ride, Mr. Udulutch.
