About the Author
Rebecca Zanetti is the author of over twenty-five romantic suspense, dark paranormal, and contemporary romances, and her books have appeared multiple times on the New York Times, USA Today, and Amazon bestseller lists. She has received a Publisher's Weekly Starred Review for Wicked Edge, Romantic Times Reviewer Choice Nominations for Forgotten Sins and Sweet Revenge, and RT Top Picks for several of her novels. She lives in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest with her own alpha hero, two kids, a couple of dogs, a crazy cat...and a huge extended family. She believes strongly in luck, karma, and working her butt off...and she thinks one of the best things about being an author, unlike the lawyer she used to be, is that she can let the crazy out. Book two is Heath and Anya's story.
Heath Jones has been genetically created in a lab by a very evil scientist and because of that he has special abilities. Heath and his brothers are on the run from their creators while trying to build their own life. Anya Best is a professor of criminal psychology and is seeking revenge for her sisters death. Her sister while previously working with the brothers was killed by a serial killer known as the Copper Killer.
This action-fast-paced book is filled with mystery, suspense, romance and sexually tension. It's a very well written book with developed characters and believable outcomes. I can't wait for book three, which is Denver's book, to come out. Rebecca sets up Denver's story so nicely without leaving this book as a cliffhanger.
Zanetti has been writing a series for a while now in which a mad woman scientist genetically manipulates DNA to create super-soldiers. She masquerades under a variety of names and is always evil.
Lethal Lies is the second in a new trilogy. None of the stories in the trilogy are standalones and are best read in order. Our heroes are the Lost Bastards, three men who as children being tortured and abused in the Lost Springs School for Boys by the mad scientist, the man who runs the school, and his sadist brother a sheriff who is also the scientist's lover.
The boys escape from the school after accidentally killing the man who ran it while trying to protect the youngest of the three. They swear a blood oath to be brothers and despite their youth, they honor their vow and despite being runaways, manage to stay under the radar. It helps, of course, that they are genetically superior beings.
They specialize in finding those who are lost. They have done this for many years and are masters at switching identities, necessary because the sheriff has been hunting for them for 20 years to get revenge for his brother whom he believes they murdered.
Heath knew the FBI agent murdered by the Copper Killer, a serial killer called that because he only goes after redheads. The agent's sister, despite a complete lack of training, wants to be bait so she can have her revenge on her sister's murderer. Which makes her a little too stupid to live, but wiser counsel prevails.
The thing that kept me interested was the relationship between the three men. They trust each other absolutely and really only trust each other and no one else. They have been through a lot together which has bound them closer and they regard themselves as a family and their family always comes first, no matter what. It is through these relationships with each other that they begin to assuage the trauma of their childhoods.
The Copper Killer is coming for Anya, systematically killing other women in her place. Her sister, Loretta, is out there somewhere as bait. She has no idea who he is. She's a profiler for the FBI and knows his mind, but is no closer to finding him.
Heath has a penchant for protecting women and wounded animals. He's looking out for Loretta and he's got guilt a mile wide for not being able to get a step ahead of the Copper Killer.
He's thrown together with Anya when she makes a public announcement to the Killer. As is his nature, he's determined to protect her. She's feisty and not to keen on his desire to hide her away. As they plan their trap, they are trying to stay ahead of NOT only the Copper Killer but Dr Madison and Sheriff Cobb. All the while they are learning about each other and fighting the attraction.
Staying ahead of the FBI, the police, the Killer, and their past, is proving to be increasingly more difficult. Things are coming at them fast and furious. Twists and turns. The past crashes into the present and threatens the future.
I CANNOT WAIT for Twisted Truths, Denver's story! Each book gets more intense!
While reading Deadly Silence, I had expected Special Agent Loretta Jackson to be Heath's love interest. She made regular appearances throughout the book, and than at the end was abducted by the Copper Killer. Lethal Lies starts right where the last book left off, but Loretta isn't Heath's match, it's Anya. It took me longer to warm up to this couple than usual, but I think that is more because of my *couple prediction* than the chemistry. Once I got past that, I was sucked back into this plot.
I CANNOT wait for Denver and Noni's book. This couple has intrigued me from the beginning and I'm so happy that it will finally be their turn. I'm also ready for the guys to put an end to the evil scientist lady, so hopefully that will wrap up in the next one as well.
I received an advance review copy of this book that I have chosen to review.... But I also purchased a copy on Audible.
