I ended up getting in touch with the publisher of this book via the website I'd bought it from (not Amazon in this case). It turns out their old website had been hacked. They have a new one up now with all the useful resources listed in the book! Yay!
This book is packed with great information! I love the Masala's enthusiasm too! I bought this as a homeschooling mother, looking for ideas, and I think there will be tons that I will use.
So why only 3 stars? Throughout the book, each section includes references to a supposedly information-packed website that would have supportive MP3 files and videos to help a reader better learn all the written material. Unfortunately, the website support seems to have disappeared from the internet since the book's publication. I tried going to all the links and searched for similar titles, and all I could find were dead links.
The other part of the book that surprised me is that at times it reads like an advertisement for one drum company. The author is basically a spokesperson for them. In the recommended resource section, there are other brands recommended too, so it doesn't go TOTALLY over board, but it definitely felt like it leaned toward being a promotional material at times. (That same drum company was also the host of all the web content that seems to have disappeared.)
So, the book content is positive and fun, but there are pieces of the book that don't really work either. I haven't really checked out other similar books, so I can't say if there is a better book on the subject of kids and rhythm. This is the one I will likely use since I already have it, but I would possibly recommend that someone else looking for a book keep looking for something that at least would have working online support resources.
