Gab lost her husband years ago and she knew she had to make changes in her life, before her in-laws took her and her child's life...completely over. Then one day she is notified that her long lost father has died and left her everything, including a house in a small cozy town called Cedar Cove, New England. She packs her and her daughter, Chloe things up and hits the road.
After eight years of climbing his way to the top of the law firm, Justin has had it with the ruthless ways of the big city life. A place where you're expected to sell your soul to the devil himself, in order to get ahead. When he comes home from a business trip a day early and finds his girlfriend in his bed with their boss, he decides that now is as good a time to make that move back home.
Gabriella and Justin and Chloe stole my heart in this book.. The sparks that fly between these two are intense. Gab, as she's often called in this book, has more to deal with though than just a budding, unplanned relationship with Justin. She's torn between the dozens and dozens of beautifully written letters that her father left behind, that profess the love he had for her and how much he had missed her, and trying to deal with the hatred that her new found lover,Justin and his brother, Blake have for the man for killing their parents.
Patricia has created intriguing and fun twists and turns, and as their relationship ignited. I couldn't put this book down, I had to see how the story was going to unfold. I love the way the two brothers read each others emotions. They know exactly what the other one needs, and when to back off without uttering one word between themselves.
An added bonus was a return visit to Cedar Cove with Blake and Delaney, the main characters in THIS TIME FOREVER and the character of Mary from the B&B. What a lovely time spent with old friends. I love the relationships and dynamics between the different characters of this story.
I highly recommend this book!
Some reviewers criticized the author's description of the locale, but to me it was just a beautiful place to live and raise a family. Whatever they thought inaccurate didn't detract from the story. Another reviewer criticized typos, but as I read, I saw nothing to warrant that comment. Perhaps she read an earlier version before editing was done.
Letters to Gabriella is an entertaining as well as touching romance that makes for a perfect beach or vacation read. I'm looking forward to Patricia Paris's next book.
There was a quick pace to this story and I found Patricia's style of writing very easy to read. All the characters were very likable and they all had distinct and three-dimensional personalities. The imagery was very well done with graphic and explicit descriptions so I could really "see" the story unfolding until it reached its lovely, HEA ending.
*****Spoiler Alert***** I only have one complaint. I never found out what Gabriella's father's demons were and what was really wrong with him that people assumed that he was a drunk. *****End Spoiler Alert*****
I certainly intend to read the third book when it comes out and I hope that I don't have to wait too long. I found that this book really touched my emotions and gave me a lot of pleasure so I would definitely recommend it.
