From Library Journal
These are the second and third volumes to appear in a projected 14-volume edition under the general editorship of Richard J. Finneran and George Mills Harper. Prefaces and Introductions contains 32 pieces written between 1888 and 1937, mostly introductions to literary works by others or to anthologies edited by Yeats himself. The writing suggests the impressive range of Yeats's literary interests over the span of his entire career. Letters to the New Island contains 21 prose pieces Yeats published between 1888 and 1892 in two American newspapers--the Boston Pilot and the Providence Sunday Journal . The pieces are reviews and brief essays on Irish literature and folklore, showing Yeats's intense concern at the time with the relation of culture to nationality. Both volumes are meticulously edited, setting a high standard of excellence for this important scholarly edition of Yeats's work. Essential for subject collections.
