These were not available via amazon prime so I went to the local big sporting goods store. They had these Leupold 6x30 Yosemite binocs sitting out along with most other major brands. These are excellent binocs at the price. Crystal clear and tons of light. I spent over 40 minutes testing binocs. They totally blew away the Nikon Monarchs sitting beside them that are almost three times more expensive and way darker with a less responsive focus. I have a three month old pair of Nikon Prostaffs and they are not on par with the Yosmite either. I did also look at the 8x Yosemite but liked the 6x better as you can focus on things about 5 feet away with the 6x. Also looked at some Swarovski's...heh, nice, real nice but not 2k worth of nicer. When I judge binocs my standard is a 40 year old pair of 6x Tascos made in Japan. Not sure why most modern glass seems inferior to those...but these Leupolds are very close, so I bought them. I recommend them. Clear, bright, very quick focus, and smooth focus so you can really tweak an image in. They are waterproof and come with a really nice soft case and nice padded neck strap plus a lens cloth. Only complaint...made in China...

great pair of binos for the price.
lightweight for ease of wearing all day. I recommend a racer back type harness for wearing em on your chest.
I got the 6x30 for wide FOV when looking across mountains for elk and sheep.
these are great for locating animals but not enough power for close inspection of a particular animal thats hundreds/thousands of yards away. for that you'll need a spotting scope.
so far they seem rugged and I like caps.
I'll report back with more later

Definitely an easier lug than 7x35s, very bright, giant view, and razor-sharp focus. I had a problem with the eye relief for a while: it was long but fixed (you had to float your eye 3/4 inch away or lose the field), but once I screwed the eye-cups out (they are a twist-to-deploy thing), it got easy to bring them to bear on things. This is a sort of a cheat....the super image quality of $300 binocs at a knock-down price. Good compromise. Slightly better that the Nikon Action binocs for a little more. There are so few binocs in this price/performance range, unless you get 1950s-1960s Japanese models, open them, clean them carefully, and fix up the grease. This is a classic. Tried the 8x30 Yosemites at a shop...those are awesome too.
Update, April 2013: Squint (losing image when your eye isn't perfectly positioned) was bugging me too much so I sold these on. Acts a bit like a gunsight that way. I like to grab the binocs for a quick lock-on. I need less 'squint'. All other comments still hold: the image is awesome when you're lined up right.

I have owned these binoculars for six months and use them quite often. My comments are based living in the North woods of Vermont, and I am an avid wildlife observer and hunter. While in the forests of Vermont one hundred yards is the limit of distance you can see. By having a magnification of 6 power the field of view is noticeably wider than with an 8 power binocular. This is a real plus for wildlife location. Also, by using a lower magnification shaking is not as noticeable, and I feel that this is a greater benefit to clarity than an increase in magnification. I wear glasses and these binoculars work very, very well with them on. The field of view remains large and unobstructed. As has been commented on by others, there is a tightness in the focusing ring around midpoint when you first used them, but all you have to do is focus past it once or twice and it goes away. This occurs every time you first put them to use. If your needs are similar to mine, you will not be disappointed with the performance of these optics. I recommend them highly.

My only complaint about the Yosemite 6 x 30 binoculars has to do with the neck strap I received and trying to attach the small O rings to the sides of the Yosemite. Very difficult to do. The O rings are either too small or the holes where they attach into the sides of the binos are too awkward to work the O rings onto. I ended up ordering system connectors - Mini QD Loop-1mm - from OP/Tech USA and they enabled me to attach the neckstrap to the binos. My wife is much happier now and so am I. The glass is great, clear, sharp and BRIGHT!

I own Fujinon 7x50 FMTR-SX and have just purchased Leopold Yosemite. After 2 days of use I don't see any difference in image quality between Yosemite and Fujinon. The only thing that is really different – Fujinon's autofocus feature. Can somebody explain how it's possible? The difference in price is 6 times and Fujinon is known to be the most inexpensive among high-grade binoculars. May be there's something wrong with my eyes? May be I don't know what too look for when I am comparing these binos? May be I should drop Yosemite from a rock to see where it stands in terms of shock protection? :)

Also many reviewers complain about the built quality/design of Yosemite. Guys, at $90 this built quality/design and the quality/design of the stuff that comes with the binoculars is called incredible.

These are FREAKIN' AWESOME! (Background info: I'm a 45 year old now and this year I began to need glasses because of my extensive computer work and for any reading-distance or closer work.) I bought the Leupold Yosemite 8x30mm Center Focus Porro Prism (in the Natural color tone, since I live in SoCal I figured this is a better color match for my surroundings?). I bought them 9-8-2014 in Orange County, CA. This was a surprise rainy day today after long-term drought conditions. So Light was significantly lower today than usual and the optics where still unreal amazing! I even went back out on the street at 7:45pm (barely any twilight left at all) and with just the street lights on and peoples porch lights these things pulled in the light better than your own eyes... at crazy distances! The 3-D perceptions of objects is crazy cool too! Hard to describe how it's much more detailed and vibrant than "real life". The 3-Dimensional effect of objects are much more clearly perceived by your eyes, presumably since the Objective lenses are father apart than your own eyes are? About the only "Hrmm" thing I've noticed on these was that the focus wheel had a spot somewhere in the middle of the adjustment that required a bit more force to adjust thru that "zone" if you will. (The rest of it was pure silky smooth easy) It feels like the kinda thing that will most likely get easier with usage as it breaks-in(?) It comes with neoprene case, also a neoprene neckstrap and of course cleaning cloth. NOTE: My eyes are REALLY blurry and tired from my work today and it BLEW ME AWAY how crystal clear the world looked thru these. Because of their wide field ov Vision shaking at long distance when holding freehand was not bad at all.Read more ›
