The LevelOne GSW-0807 Gigabit Ethernet Switch is designed for reliable high-performance networking. With its non-blocking switching fabric in full-duplex mode, this switch can deliver up to 2000Mbps per port, while the Store-and-Forward service bring slow latency and error-free packet delivery. This high performance Gigabit Ethernet switch is perfect for fulfilling the demands of online gaming and multimedia streaming. Moreover, this switch also supports IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet which helps reduce power consumption. Power Saving Features The GSW-0807 supports IEEE 802.3az Energy Efficient Ethernet to provide power-saving benefits without compromising performance. One of the ways it does this is by automatically detecting the length of connected cables and can adjust power usage by saving energy on shorter cable connections. Compact and Stylish Design The stylish, compact wall-mountable housing of GSW-0807 fits any working environment. It comes with 8 10/100/1000Mbps ports to meet SOHO and home network expansion needs. Easy to Use The GSW-0807 features plug-and-play for easy installation. No configuration is required. Auto-negotiation on each port senses the link speed of a network device and adjusts for compatibility and optimal performance

I was very impressed. This thing is much smaller than I expected. It measures just shy of 6-inches across, and about 3 1/2-inches front to back. It's 1-inch thick. This diminutive package is completely plastic, is very light weight, and can be wall mounted with two screws. It comes with a small wall-wart AC adapter. This is thing is really packed with some features you wouldn't expect for about $30.
- 8 Ports
- 8K of memory for an internal MAC address table (the switch "learns" which IP addresses are connected to each port, then stores that into this special memory for faster identification of which port it should send a packet to.)
- 1024K of internal buffer memory (this just allows it to "ballast" data for a more stable high-speed transfer)
- 10/100/1000 auto-sensing, auto negotiating ports. (it automatically adjusts the settings on each port to suit whatever is plugged into it)
What's this all mean? Well, suffice it to say that when you compare these features with other switches in the same category, the competition is nearly double the price. Who is LevelOne? I've never heard of them either. It seems they are a German company with a niche in networking electronics, especially high-end ethernet security cameras.
Here's a few nice things I noticed. The front-mounted LEDs are very subtle. They are a soft-glow green, not a screeching bright blue. I don't need another item that adds to the bright flashing lights already pulsating in my office. The unit runs very cool.
It works. It works well. Good price, surprisingly good quality despite its lightweight plastic exterior. I'm happy, I feel I've gotten a lot of value.
I installed one switch upstairs coming off the router in my office (FIOS router with a built-in 100mb switch) , and cascaded the second switch about 60' away downstairs into the family room. I took everything off the FIOS switch and plugged existing router connections to the gigabit switch upstairs. I plugged the cascaded switch into one of the ports on the upstairs switch. Now all my devices on the lan are talking at maximum potential.
This switch has flow control and doesn't require a cross-cable or plug into a specific port. That makes a big difference with the setup and performance. Especially if you are trying to load a blu ray bd iso over the lan. Check around through...I notice the price varies from site to site. At the time, Amazon did have the best deal on these.
