Starred Review. Dooley, already a well-established speaker in his own right, broadened his profile as one of the teachers in the DVD and book phenomenon The Secret. Dooley's audios, first created by his motivational company, Totally Unique Thoughts, have begun to make their way into the mainstream trade publishing arena. In this particular seminar—recorded at a Unity church in Raleigh, N.C.—Dooley challenges listeners to harness the world around them as a force for positive change. Dooley emphasizes the importance of mastering thoughts and beliefs, though he also warns against fixating on self-analysis at the expense of old-fashioned determination. The only place the ship of your dreams will never find you is sitting at home waiting for it, he exhorts his audience. Dooley embraces spiritual concepts that fall into New Age categories, but he manages to eschew the ethereal trappings of a guru. Instead, he projects the easygoing stance of a pleasant and engaging 40ish businessman with whom one can easily imagine enjoying a beer or two. (Feb.)

“A fabulous book! Mike has been in the trenches with his dreams dashed, and yet he came back. This book tells how he did it and how anyone can do it. I highly recommend Leveraging the Universe. It’s instructional and inspiring!”
—Marci Schimoff, author of Happy for No Reason and Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul

After two failed start ups, I figured I had lost whatever trait it was that made self-employed people successful, so I tried for a year to go to work for someone else. I applied for 75 jobs, got three interviews, and no takers. I was broke and discouraged. This had gone on for so long, and I couldn't figure out any way out of it. I really wanted to be done with it all and kill myself, but the thought of leaving my family in financial distress bothered me. I spent a lot of time planning a tragic traffic accident, and applied for additional life insurance, but was denied. "Damn," I said to myself, "I can't even kill myself productively."
It was at this point, early December, that I listened to "Leveraging the Universe." It made so much sense, and I was convinced that Mike was right, because I could see very clearly how every single aspect of my unhappy life had started as a thought in my mind. I was giving FULL attention to the lack, and was getting more and more of it. I quickly understood that I had incredible manifesting power, and it was all pointed in the wrong direction.
The thing that really helped turn my thoughts around was Mike's emphasis on avoiding the "cursed hows." I had spent years on the hows, and it got me nothing but frustration. I immediately thought of two things that would give me great joy: having a career as a public speaker, and having a fun group of like-minded people who would join me in doing the Body-for-Life fitness program. I had no idea how to get either one of those things, but the thought of them happening really made me feel better. So every night, I envisioned myself traveling around the country, having fun talking to groups. And I imagined being involved with a fun group of people who were all doing the BFL program. Envisioning what I wanted was such an incredible relief, compared to worrying about what I didn't have.
Within TEN DAYS, two things happened: First, the speaker at our Rotary Club meeting turned out to be the director of the YMCA. She came to the meeting looking for suggestions for new programs that would fit in with their mission and be of benefit to the community. I said, "Oh, my gosh, it's WORKING," and dashed off a letter outlining my BFL idea. I offered to lead the program if she would market and host it. She agreed!
Second, I stumbled onto an internet ad from a seminar company. They were holding auditions in Dallas for people who wanted to be speakers and present their seminars across the country. The ad listed the qualifications-- some I had, and others I didn't. But I drove down to Dallas and did an audition. I am absolutely delighted to report that I will soon be traveling around the country, having fun talking to groups.
I was so ecstatic about this and the BFL class that I mentioned it to friends at church. They suggested I offer the BFL class at church, as well, so now I have TWO BFL classes. I've lost 12 pounds in 19 days, and it's been EFFORTLESS and FUN. Everybody loves the class, and I love leading it. I spend half of each session talking about how we create our ideal bodies in our heads first. There's a lot of scripture that supports thoughts becoming things, once you know how to look at it. I've done the BFL program before, but I've never made so much progress so fast. The only thing I'm doing differently is paying strict attention to my thoughts throughout the whole process. Well, I guess that means I'm doing EVERYTHING differently!
Those are the two big events, and there have been lots of smaller ones. I used to toss and turn at night, worrying. I would say to myself, "How am I ever going to get where I want to go?" Now, I sleep peacefully, knowing that I WILL get where I want to go, and it's absolutely delightful not knowing how it will happen. I pay my bills with confidence and joy, envisioning money flowing in and out of my life like air in and out of my lungs. I don't know where it's all going to come from, but it sure will be fun to find out!
Unlike other Secret participants, Mike is down to earth and brings his own discoveries in to view.
The lecture is filled with inspiration and how what he does works for him. And even the seemingly wrong turns in his journey have all fallen together.
Thoughts do become things! Which is very useful as you get older.
You just have to put in a good effort in thinking what you want or what you lost. Then like magic it happens.
I'm still waiting for my $2M, but I know its around the corner some where.
Buy the CD's, listen to them several times and pass them ont to someone you love.
His writing is powerful yet easily digested, inspiring yet filled with daily manageable tasks to redirect our thoughts, and humbly filled with references to his own experiences yet magnificently positioned to take us all - himself included - to the next great level of being.
In Leveraging the Universe, I see that yes, life is a journey and I can enjoy absolutely everything about it because I am the captain of my thoughts, cheered on by a very loving Umpire who wants us all to win, win, win! And see that winning is also all about how I'm playing the game.
Thank you Mr. Dooley!
